And it's played completely straight, with the witches and curses and a goatman thing, like downright cliche horror stuff that they're playing completely straight. Here I thought I was in for another fun comedy with a sassy black cat >__> ...

Just finished the first episode. I'm very perturbed by the scenes I saw.

Yeah, I didnt want it to be a straight up comedy, but I really expected more dark humor.

It's okay, and I'll finish it eventually, but I'm not much of a horror guy so I'm a bit let down and haven't watched for a couple of weeks, after watched the first three episodes.

if the Adam West Batman show is a 10 in terms of camp, I would put Riverdale around a 3 or 4, and Sabrina at a 1

it's definitely a different vibe from Riverdale, but the only thing that actually left me disappointed was the fact that Salem didn't speak

It's annoying because the casting and actors are pretty great (only on episode 2 though) so I kinda want to know what happens next but really don't like the lore/tone they're going with, I would really have liked something more campy, tongue-in-cheek, etc.

Also Sabrina's friend is damn cute too, I love those glasses and the au natural hair.

salam lol. Anyway that sucks, I would literally only watch a live sabrina for hilarious salem. I did watch the cartoon sabrina show, if anyone remembers that one. I liked that one a lot as well, was hoping this netflix reboot would be like it.

Also couldn't they have gotten anyone besides little sally draper to be sabrina if she was allergic to cats? That's so weird.

my nephew used to watch austin and ally when he was like 7/8 he is turning 15 now and im nostalgic for austin and ally now even though i hated that show

Also why do people say salem doesn't speak? Doesn't the familiar, the black shadow thing that was in sabrina's room speak, and isn't that salem? So he did speak, he's just rather dark and serious so far rather than fun and animatronicy like the show.

one thing i like about teen beach movie is that since they were trapped inside a musical from the 50s in a time before autotune they decided not to use any autotune so they had to cast disney stars who could actually sing

the brunette guy in that movie went on to play a gay porn star in a movie and then after that he came out of the closet for real

Kiernan Shipka is one of the better teen actors out here. She's also blond and just the right levels of girl-next-door-cute.

Anyway, I like the show. It's certainly dark and while it isn't like Riverdale in knowing campiness, it certainly isn't humorless.

Yeah, if it had a lighter horror tone a la Evil Dead it would not be the snooze fest that it is.

It's basically like every CW drama show catered to teens ever and that's an easy pass for me.

It's not that it's utterly humorless, again I'm really like the actors so far.

But it's the actual plot of the show that I'm not on board with. Unholy baptism, unholy church of night, dark lord, what? The show seems to be using the Christianish version of witches which is a complete turn-off, I'd rather something more fun and less gloomy.

Guess it's just not my cup of tea.

Yeah, I was hoping for something more in line with Riverdale. That's a typical CW teen drame, but it knows it, and plays into those tropes with glee.

She found out on set that she was allergic. She didn't know it before so there wasn't much you could do about it. They tried to drug her with antihistamines but it affected her performance.

Having prior knowledge of Archie is entirely unneeded.

And Riverdale is an absolutely absurd teen drama that is fully aware it's an absurd teen drama and just entirely leans into it. It also takes more than a little inspiration from Twin Peaks.

The material is approached in a straightforward and serious manner and without irony.

So in a show about Satan worshipping witches, the characters are treated like Satan worshipping witches. Them worshipping Satan isn't meant to be part of any sort of joke but is a legitimate part of their character.

Likewise, the horror elements aren't being used for humorous purposes. If someone slits someone's throat, it isn't funny. It's treated serious. Signing away one's soul to Satan is treated seriously.

That being said, I'm not sure I agree that Sabrina plays everything 100% straight. They definitely do for the horror elements, but the Satanism is tinged with humor.

Like what even is that, why is the devil a goat man? I was hoping Lucifer would be more like the contemporary devil in media, a good looking dude with charm that has a dark side, either a literal monster side or metaphorical. Not a dude in a cgi goat mask thing. cripes.

You mean when they added paige? Again rose mcgowan might be annoying now but she was pretty hot back in the 90s, she was in that scream movie and was pretty hot. And there's no denying kaley ccuuccou is gorgeous, even if she was a hilarious last minute add-on in the final season of the show (I didn't even make it that far in the show, honestly stopped watching because the show stopped airing consistently after season 3)

That must be what it is, like what they do with power rangers, have a bunch of aussie/new zealand actors for cheap who are all gorgeous with model fit bodies. Hell rose mciver basically started out as an australian power ranger before being cw's izombie.

And that must explain why the actors' accents in the show are all over the place. The hot black girl seems to have an accent. As does blackwood. Not sure why aunt hilda and zelda have different accents even, are they sisters in the "homie" sense or actual biological sisters. Seriously the weird sisters check all the boxes too, an asian hottie, a black hottie, and a redhead hottie. It's too much.

What feels liek a movie instead of a tv series? Not ever show needs a Lost or 24 type cliffhanger at the end of every episode. There are a couple very episodic instances here, but it's serialized

I don't even know what that means but I will say that the episodes are long, like each is an hour long, and there's a complaint going around regarding netflix shows that they're too long because they aren't constrained by network television's ad times and whatnot. Take that how you will.
