The only reason to like him is if you like cute things, which is fine. Just cop to that and stop trying to pretend that he's a worthwhile character like say, Dante.

He's had some good games and what not but there's never any character development or anything like that, just Kirby being cute and saving... whatever he saves.

I think what you're glossing over are the other elements that make kirby such a phenomenal character, he's dumb yes, but also a pink ball. He's a stand in for the human condition. A vulnerable fish out of water forced to adapt quickly to the situations at hand. The game gives you a bold choice: will you remain yourself, despite the struggle that creates? Or will you don the hat and tools of the locals and try to assimilate, losing your identity in the process?

Kirby is a shallow character with a great design and a simple appeal and so is Dante and I love them both don't make me choose.
