I know I've made like 5 topics over the last couple years or so about this, but I think I gonna pull the trigger.

Is it worth it?

It's a really cool console with lots of good ports (Okami, Kero Blaster, Cave Story, Shovel Knight, Dark Souls...) Exclusive wise, Super Mario Odyssey was amazing. Most people love Breath of the Wild too although I couldn't get into it

Since it is so close to Black Friday I would look at the ads online (you can find them by doing a google search) and then see which deal looks best to you. From my experience, unless it just launched, you don't have to line up for stores to open to get a console deal, I've seen them still in store in the afternoons.

Honestly, I haven't played a single exclusive where I was like "this is a must have!" I just enjoy the indie support it gets and the actual system itself. Very convenient, nice UI, fast load times, it's got a ton of power for technically being a handheld too.

Don't get me wrong though, the first party games are still really strong.

Mario Odyssey was legitimately some of the most fun I've ever had with a game. Other than that, Xenoblade 2 is great, BotW's great (though available on WiiU, if that's an option for you), Mario x Rabbids is a pretty good time, Snipperclips is a delightful little co-op game (easy to get into and fun to spectate, so good for parties), and Monster Hunter GU is excellent if you're an MH fan (or if you aren't yet but are interested; MH just isn't a series for everyone).

As for whether or not it's worth it, I passed the $1/hour of play time mark quite some time ago (pretty sure I've done that with just Xenoblade and MH, and I haven't even bought the DLC for Xenoblade yet). I don't know how much value you place in that metric, since the "length=value" thing is pretty questionable in a lot of ways, but that's all I can really contribute to answering that question.

Just get Octopath Traveller, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and you'll be all set for the rest of the year.

If you get switch online, you can play some NES games on it too if that interests you at all. They've got some good games on there

I think my wife told my mother-in-law to get me a switch for Christmas and since I'm the favorite son-in-law...

this is a great list, but is missing a few games that I think are great:

bayo 1 (not an exclusive, but still a great game if you've never played it)
bayo 2 (was on the wii u previously)
hyrule warriors (was also on wiiu and 3ds, but switch version is the best)
hollow knight, which is on pc, but I don't think on any other console
and of course smash is coming out in less than a month

Not exclusives, but they have a bunch of indie games, some which were on PC. But they maybe things you have thought about or something...

Yeah, these three are all amazing, and Bayonetta 2 is the best game of this generation outright, I just didn't include them since they weren't exclusive enough.
