it's kinda fun to go back and retry for full mastery.

some challenges are fun to try to figure out yourself, then others are like "uh fuck no i ain't doing that without a guide"

I did the Cheveyo Calibration escalation contract and got me a dope-ass sniper rifle. Also mastered Marrakesh and Bangkok

If you look in the challenges tab it tells you if it unlocks stuff IIRC. Most of the time it's a skin or silly costume.

Still really disappointed by that game. I really don't get the appeal. Hitman: Blood Money is like a gritty real time puzzle game, and the limited amount of tranquilizer (and no 'choke to unconsciousness' button) forced the player to be more discerning and thoughtful of their approach, especially when going for Silent Assassin rank.

Hitman 2016 lets you nonlethally remove any and every NPC from the playing field if there's a long enough blind spot. With that and the focus on replay and different methods, the focus feels like it's more on this "wacky freeplay" or whatever with more power and agency, but the game engine isn't very good for making that kind of stealth play enjoyable like it is in say MGSV.

Hitman 2016 is also one of the only games ever where I had to turn off that horrifically repetitive soundtrack.

I think Blood Money is way easier than Hitman 2016 considering it takes a lot for anyone to be suspicious of your disguise.

Hitman hasn't really been hard since Hitman 2 though. But Hitman 2016 at least has all of the escalations and specific challenges to get some difficulty out of it. There was nothing like that in Blood Money. Once you knew a level there wasn't really anything to get wrong.

Cheveyo

I figured it out after I made that post now. Wish I had done that earlier, I've already got mastery 20 on most Hitman 1 levels so I don't really need to do sniper assassin on any of them now

Having played 2016 before Blood Money, I feel like 2016 was way more generous about telling you what you could do to get close to a target. Blood Money really required you to figure things out on your own, even the "intel" you could buy were just vague hints. You can turn off some of the help in 2016 and 2 (the new 2), but you can't really turn it on in older games.
