I'd be more concerned about the times they still won't admit it, by telling their customers that their computers are beyond repair, when often all that is needed is to open it up and re-solder one or two disconnected pins. Or when their crap engineering wrecks their computers through normal or even minimal use.

I miss early 2000s era Apple. Their products did still cost a fair amount, but it wasn't the $1000 for a phone bullshittery we have today and more importantly, it was with a lot less "head up their own ass" attitude that they have today. They definitely had a streak of acting like they were better than their competition, but it's because they were and they were more realistic with their pricing.

Apple has been like that since the early 1990s. They've come to define the concept of Veblen goods. It actually goes back even further then that. Before IBM PC became the standard for DOS/Windows when you bought a PC you were tied to that PC. You couldn't swap out parts, you couldn't buy alternative software, you were tied to every single component of that machine. Apple for the most part is just adopting a policy from the late 70's/early 80's in modern times. Granted, they have become a little better over the years (switching their computers from PowerPC to Intel being a huge improvement) but they still adopt this outdated policy. --- I am a senior software engineer. Microsoft unintentionally (?) broke Windows 95 by including a defective DLL with IE 5, but with some fishing around, you can replace that DLL with one that was in a beta of IE 5, that retains compatibility without freaking the system out.
Just look for win95comctlfix.zip online, if you still use Win95 to screw around. The issue is not present in Win98 or later versions of Win9X. If you want to get some history on computers, I recommend watching episodes of The Computer Chronicles, in chronological order. Amazing how some of the predictions made in the eighties came true. --- The More You Know ... Copied to Clipboard!
