1. Do elementary, middle and high schools all go on Summer vacation and come back at the same time?

2. What month and time of month do schools usually close for Summer, and when do they re-open?

I know that Summer vacation is earlier in America than in Britain. When I was at secondary school, we broke up in mid-July, and returned in early September (which worked very well). It just occurred to me that different levels of education in the US might be different.

Can somebody answer my questions? Are they the same or different? Also, what time periods? I know it's something like June to August, but that's not very specific. Why are people on this board so unhelpful some of the time?

We don't have a unified school system, so each district makes up their own dates. There are many thousands of districts.

Can't you give me approximations? Isn't there any national unity at all?

At least tell me how it was for you.

I thought grade school was elementary school?

And I think it's blatantly obvious to even the biggest simpleton what I meant by that. <_<

Well, mine is different from most. Most people go to a grade school from kindergarten-6th grade, then a middle school for 6-8, then high school for 9-12. I went to a k-8. The grade and high schools are different districts, and make there own decisions. My high school got out a week earlier than my grade school. Can't recall the start dates... I'm 35. Was a long time ago.

1) In a given district, they do. The exact days depend on the city. Seniors in some highschools start summer vacation a week or two early

2) Schools don't technically close - there's summer school, day care, teachers/administration preparing for the next year, buildings are only completely empty for maybe a week or two. Late May/early June is around when vacation starts for students, late August/early September for the new school year

The exact dates for when school starts and ends and when winter and spring breaks are can vary between area (usually it varies by state).

In my home state, the school year ended the first week of June or so and started up the first week after Labor Day (generally the second week of September).

Schools in one school district get out around the same time, it's not like a high school is going to end in May but an elementary school is going to get out in June or anything like that.

Yes. They all go on vacation at the same time and come back at the same time. I know at my school Seniors got out of school a week earlier after they finished their finals, to get ready for graduation. (Last minute assignments, extra credit to get a higher grade, etc.)

Edit: Schools in the SAME DISCTRICT start and end on the same day usually.

2. What month and time of month do schools usually close for Summer, and when do they re-open?
Early to mid June to Mid to Late August. It's different in each school district. All they have to do is provide 181 days of schooling. (That's how it was in 2003)

Did your schools ever have budgeting issues resulting in you going half a school year with back to back 4 day school weeks >_>

In my state you cannot keep kids in school past a certain day in June.

The recent trend is to start in mid August but have a lot of days off after winter so that if we get a lot of snow they have days in spring for make up days

In Nevada, it's early June to late August.

There are also some year-round schools, but they have a lot more days off to balance out the year.

1. frequently depends on what region of America you are in, in much of the Southern US for instance nearly everybody starts the first week of August/end of July, a lot of northern regions seem to start later and I'm not too sure about Western states tbh.
2. public schools generally are united under a single district that operates under the same calendar, private schools are generally k-12 so the same somewhat applies to them.

when i was in my freshman year at clark high school. everyone came back late august but got out around may (that year was the lowest point in my high school life)

elementary to high school otherwise closed around mid june and opened after labor day. seniors in 2004 only had to go to school for the first 6 days of june then they attended graduation.

It was early June to Labor Day (first monday in Sept), but now it's June to mid-August. Some school systems had a two months on and two/one week off schedule year around. Kinda wish I had that

Here's another question. What ages do people go to different levels of school? Is what I've written below right?

Elementary school - 6 - 13
Middle school - 13 - 15
High school - 15 - 17

I'm not sure if this is right or not.

elementary is 6-11 (or 5-10 if your birthday is late in the year)
middle school is 12-14 (or 11-13)
high school is 15-18 (or 14-17)

2. For mine it's around June 15-20, although it can be even longer with snow days. School starts on August 30th.
