When are you planning on upgrading?
Typical idevices get more upgrades for longer, say 3-5 years
Androids usually only got 2-3 unless you want to root it and install a customOS

If you want an iPhone, the XR isn't the best one to get. I'd get a XS, or if you want to spend a little less money, last year's X model.

Yeah, no point in getting a XR. Either look for last year's X, or stretch your budget a little and grab a XS.

Since you like your S7 edge (Note 9 will be familiar to you and quantum leap in specs/functions), what makes you want to jump ship to iOS?

The Note 9 has gotten stellar reviews, and it's Linus Tech Tips' highest reviewed phone. It's debatable which one is better, but the Note 9 and the Pixel 3 are the absolute top-of-the-line Androids money can buy right now.

And the iPhone XR... doesn't even have a 1080p screen. Let alone an OLED one.

I'd only ever recommend an iPhone to someone who's used iPhones for a while and are still happy with them. The whole iPhone line, and iOS, seems to be badly stagnating, and newer iPhones don't last nearly as long as older ones from the Steve Jobs era. So it's a really bad time to jump aboard the iPhone ship, even if you were wanting to go with an XS.

Hell, I moved away from using an iPhone and bought a Galaxy S9, and I'm happy as a clam. It feels a hell of a lot less restrictive, and being able to use a huge MicroSD card to save more camera recordings is a huge boon.

So I vote the Note 9.

My fianc has an X. I like the interface and feel a bit bored of android. And I used to have an ipad with a ton of paid apps on my apple account I can re-download.
