I had a friend who had it in something his girlfriend made for him. He didnt say anything like wish I had regular chicken instead of canned. But I dont hear about it much. I have regular chicken to cook. But maybe canned would be easier for quicker things. But I dont know if I want to use it or not. Or try it...

Good stuff, I like to shake in some hot sauce. It's also great for some quick chicken salad sandwiches.

To me it tastes like tuna in a can. If I want to speed up time in cooking something I usually pick up a rotisserie chicken.

I like those and get those, as well. But Im not sure that would be best for the stuff I sometimes make. The taste probably wouldnt match... and I might not have use for the whole thing. Or might need just a little more.

I guess I could buy a can to taste it...

I mean it's pretty inexpensive to give it a try once

I've just never liked canned meat things personally, tuna included. It all smells like pet food and has a weird texture

Canned chicken is best in my opinion if you mix it with Miracle Whip (or generic equivalent) and chopped, cooked bacon, to make cold chicken bacon salad sandwiches. If you want to cook with diced chicken, it's best that you buy chicken raw/frozen and cook it properly.

Ill sometimes use canned chicken breast in a casserole or something, but taking the time just to make some fresh shredded chicken makes for a better meal

I am a little worried about that. Especially now that I have a cat. Before, its probably would have reminded me of pet food a little because my dog usually have hard food. But with the little one still loving soft food, I think it will remind me of her stuff a little. But I guess tying a little wont hurt much...

I use it occasionally for chicken enchiladas if I am feeling lazy. Honestly, I don't notice that much difference, it is fine. Works OK for chicken salad sandwiches too.

While I dont like canned chicken on its own, it works great if you use it for dips or chicken salad and you dont have the time for fresh chicken.

My go to potluck item is bean dip using 1 can of drained chicken, 1 can of refried beans, and about 12 ounces of salsa. Just mix ingredients together in a crock pot and heat til warm. Pair with chips.

If you read some of my other posts, you would have read that I do have fresh chicken. I was asking because sometimes, I dont have as much time to cook it. So I was wondering how is was for certain foods if I needed something quick.

Also, I dont see how its really bad. Most people here seem to use it for certain things, so...

So gross. In America, canned chicken isn't whole. That's why we are the most civilized country.

To pluck and can a live chicken is a horrendous act. I'm assuming it's head is still in the can.

Makes sense for rural communities or maybe if you're in another food desert of sorts (even in a city with poor food access), but tbh I won't be buying canned chicken to save money any time soon. I think my mom gave me a can of diced chicken once. I might have fried it up in sesame oil in a stir fry or something.

Not really for saving money. More like time. And not all the time. Just certain times when I dont have any time to cook more...

Buy a rotisserie chicken from the market. Thats what we do when we make enchiladas.

Like buy a whole chicken, and then cut it up. I wouldnt mind doing that when I can. It sounds tasty. But I feel like that would take a good amount of time to get all the meat cut up. I was mostly thinking about buying it to save time, tbh...

I actually really kind of like the broth that's in the canned chicken. It's salty and chickeny and delicious.

The chicken itself is pretty meh. I only use it as a last resort, but it's convenient and keeps almost forever in the cupboard.

If you want something with the convenience of canned chicken but that tastes 100 times better, Costco sells hand pulled rotisserie chicken breast meat. It's something like 2-1/2 pounds and usually runs about $12, but it's boneless, skinless and fully cooked. The only down side is that it's fresh and only keeps for a week or so in the fridge.

Yeah, my experience with canned chicken in the US is that it's shredded/chunked white meat, similar to tuna, but not as minced. Bird in a can is very European.
