No, they're completely different genres. If you had played and enjoyed Bravely Default, or something, then yes, but Final Fantasy has changed radically since V.

I wouldn't recommend anything to someone who liked FFXV, because I'd assume we have literally nothing in common and they'd hate everything I love.

At least it's not as bad as someone liking FFVIII or FFXII, though. What I'd recommend to them is to develop better taste in games.

12 was the start of that shitty new battle system that they're shoehorning into the FF7 remake.

I have pretty much zero interest in ever playing it at this point.

Same here. The reason I liked FF7 so much was because of the materia system. I don't really see how they can implement it well into real-time combat. I imagine it to be a lot more like the junction system of FF8.

And then, suddenly, the materia melding from FFXIV.

- Bonding-like system where you are notified in text on top of your character exploding in loud, not-quite-brightly lit bursts of energy.
- RNG dictating success rates of some of your materia melding or removals.
- Party members bitching about you not having the right materia equipped to the right gear when you are actually using the correct ones for your role in combat.
- Please look forward to it.

I love XV. And V is probably my second favorite of the 2D entries.

Gameplay wise it's the best out of the 2D ones in my opinion. Love the job system.

I'd recommend it just because I feel it's a good game, just don't expect a stellar story.

Didn't crisis core have a materia system and it was action based? Sure they could improve upon that design. Simple really you equip the materia and either A have a button to toggle through which spell/summon to cast or have a button bring up a wheel where you choose what you want. And of course stuff like 2x cut just works by simply having it equipped.

But Crisis Core was a horrible game.

Seems like people actually want an ATB-based Final Fantasy game where you control your entire party and the battle system isn't janky af or hold one button to win because it's action based.

ATB was great. I really hope if they ever remake FF6 they never remove ATB. I dread a remake for FF6 due to what they are doing to FF7.

Well I liked crisis core and know plenty who do but I wasn't talking copying the whole games mechanics. Just pointing out it had a materia system and was action based so no it wouldn't have to be more like the junction system.

While I vastly prefer action based games I agree I'd rather this stick to the original as closely as possible just with modern graphics.

But I suppose their aim isn't to please old fans but to try and get younger people to be die hard ff 7 fans too.

10-15 years ago I would have said yes, please remake VI. By the time the VII Remake was announced, my faith in SE was so far into the negative that my answer would have been "Don't you fucking dare touch that gem!"

VII Remake is going to be bad. People are still going to buy into it. That's even after it is finally re-announced, along with the change to Playstation 5. That will suck for people who bought 4s just for the VII Remake, but some of those people will still buy their 5s and VII Remakes as though it were the coming of a video game messiah. They'll even defend it adamantly for a month or two, at bare minimum, while it's revealed just HOW bad the game actually is.

Meanwhile, I'll be kicking back with a glass of wine at about every opportunity, bemused by the nonsense unraveling. Of course things look bad already, and of course they will be worse once the game is finally out.

Plus it's a "Final Fantasy for beginners" that actually has mechanics, requires more than holding down one button to fight, and it came out with a complete story that doesn't sound like a random druggie wrote it.

Ah ok. Still not far off. You've played one less game in the series than me

If you get the chance I'd play 9 if you enjoyed all the others. But if possible I'd get like the PS4 port since it has a way to deal with how slow battles are.

I've never really spoken outright positive about IX. I mean, I can at least see its appeal for some people, unlike a handful of other games in the series, but it just didn't do anything good for me.

I just think if you liked the rest there isn't much reason you wouldn't like it too. The art style is probably the one complaint I see the most often.

It's not my favorite by any means though. It may be like my number 5 if I where to try and figure out how I'd rank the games in the series

You're confusing me with BTB. Most of my favorite games ever were made after 2002.

And even in this topic, out of the two games I basically said were total garbage one of them is from 1999.

I'm perfectly content hating old games and loving new games. Nostalgia has never been the source of my curmudgeonliness.
