When it's kids, it's "bullying" but if it were adults, it's stalking, harassment, assault, criminal threats and just general abuse. -Tmk

C. People who say bullying is just part of life and that it builds character always seem to be the ones who complain when bullied people snap or shed fake tears when they kill themselves.

Bullying most of the time is a bad thing.

But there are definitely some edgelords out there that justify the need for some bullying.

With a statement like that, its clear that you are the cringeworthy edgelord. I pity you.

I'm really happy to see this result, myself. I was bullied for about a decade straight, and it really did a number on me. I'm only just now starting to stabilise and step out on my own, and even that has taken 5 years out of school for me to get to this point. It's a big reason why I try to be as stable and thoughtful on here as I can - you only reap what you sow, you're never going to get an earnest answer out of anyone if you can't show a bare minimum of your genuine self and extend the same respect that you would like to be treated with.

That's my ulterior motive here, just to see how this played out and to react appropriately. I'm happy things have turned out this way.

This is CE though. This place has more rampant and unmoderated bullying than probably any other board on this site.

Users might vote that way, but there's no way 88% actually believes it. They openly mock one user for shitting his bed and routinely drive female posters away with insults, among other things.

yes, but not everybody agrees on what counts as bullying.

is shaming somebody for their beliefs bullying? if so, are there beliefs that deserve shaming? maybe some forms of bullying are more acceptable than others..?

So it is abuse that could lead to effects ranging from low self-esteem to PTSD, but that's okay as long as you don't like what the person says.

Okay.

If you think about it from the perspective that bullying will never go away 100%, yes it can help kids learn how to deal with problems, but that shouldn't be used as an excuse to ignore bullying when it happens. It certainly causes more harm than good and should be dealt with as soon as possible by an adult.

Especially since bullying in the workplace is being frowned upon more and more, and with assault fines out at the pub really racking up. Adults need to step in and resolve the situation, as is happening in real life when folks are acting shitty, but given that the bullying isn't omnipresent and all-consuming like a singular target for a classroom to mock, or along the same lines - maybe the right person can use it as a way to learn how to resolve issues.

I would wager that instances of this are few and far between though. Bullying is a serious issue, and it fucks up kids specifically because they don't know how to resolve this sort of thing at their age. Especially with shit like "snitches get stitches" and mocking kids for being "dibber-dobbers".
