Also, I would never spend a ton on drinks, at best I only drink a few times a year. Alcohol usually makes things taste worse and there are now conclusive studies that even one drink a day can be bad for your health.

Edit: Plus, even moderate drinking can have a negative impact on your brain.

The guy asked about the price for a meal and you're like the 5th person to become defensive and talk about why you dont drink.

around $30 normally. i'm not opposed to spending more in principle but the meal would have to be actively pitched to me - it's not worth it to me to go and figure out what out there is worth a lot of money

I spent $300 each for my wife and I to eat at Alinea in Chicago and after eating there I would have paid twice that

Not gonna lie, half the reason I want to visit Chicago at some point is for Alinea and The Aviary

I would recommend The Girl and The Goat as well

Thanks for the recommendation! Though I need to figure out some reasons to visit Chicago that aren't food/drink related, especially as it's unlikely my work will ever send me there.

Blackbird is better than all of those except for Alinea fwiw

When I was deep into Atkins I would go to a steak house and sit at the bar and order a 12 Oz filet mignon with salad and brocolli and. Michellob ultra. Meal would cost around $60 after tip.

It's a really cool city with a ton of events depending on what you're into (esp music). Also there's literal beaches inside the city. Blew my mind. Don't really need a special reason to go.

I'm defensive because its a practice that's iffy doing at best cause of the problems it can cause and there's basically a ton of stigma for not doing or caring for it, including heavily limiting dating and casual sex options.

I even said I'm willing to do it every once and awhile throughout the year, but then you have the problem of finding people who are also like that.

I'll take being a nerdy stick in the mud over cancer and brain damage, but stupidly, I'm in the minority here lol.

Right a whopping one beer a day will give us all cancer and brain damage.

I have a hard time rationalizing your fear of alcohol when I'm well within a healthy weight. A glass of wine or two with dinner every night isnt killing me

Hell studies have shown eating fast food more than once a month has adverse health risks. How often do you think the average user hear eats fast food?

Beside. Wine was good enough for jesus. It's his blood.

Also, as Steiner correctly mentioned, you're no fun and unfortunately that does limit your social life. Go find a date at a book club I guess I dunno

The first article though seems to downplay the effects of red wine once a day, but if you read into it and also read the second article, that's even bad once a day, and moderate drinking can cause brain damage.

Everything else is just an added bonus, but the main thing for me is fast food and soda aren't also linked to brain damage. How many bad things do they have to pile on lol.

Also, in case you are going by my name, I'm actually an atheist lol.

Edit: The name comes from younger kids in my neighborhood calling me Moses when I was around 12 cause I had facial hair at a young age, and the zs come from my friends adding them later to be "kool," and using Mozzezz for video game names lol.

That's good at least.

Also see my last post for an edit with an explanation of my user name if you care to look.

Edit: I'm looking more into it, moderate drinking may not have as much of an effect on permanent brain damage as I thought, still if you become a drinker it is bad for you and fast food and soda don't have these risks.

By myself, absolute top would be $50 plus tax, tip, drinks, although I can't ever remember doing that

When it comes to taking other people out, that number jumps dramatically. Maybe $150 to absolute maximum $300 per person for an anniversary or something

My attitude is to generally- once I'm in the place- pay whatever they ask, and if the number is too high I'll just never come again. Gotta screen the place ahead of time

Realistically, a lot of amazing places sit around a $50-90 range

My favourite meal is probably seafood risotto and it's so good with a glass of white wine

I'm not really much of a fan of wine apart from when eating.

I get it, you're on the all booze is bad bandwagon. That's cool lots of people are. To each their own.

You'll never convince me getting absolutely **** faced twice a month is going to end me any sooner than anyone else. 28 of 30 days a month on average I'm as sober as a goat.

A lady in my hometown dropped dead last week in the local bank while waiting in line. Happens to the best of us.

I take my chances. If abstaining from booze gave me an extra 365 days on this planet when all I had to look forward to was the book club I'd say the hell with it anyways send me to Zeus

There is definitely a point where I would say the hell with it depending on how much extra time it would extend my life, send me to Moses lol.

I eat fairly healthy but eat my fair share of crap and also dink soda moderately, not worrying about stuff.

Still, I kind of like what I do, only really drinking on sort of special occasions, like sometimes when I'm down the shore. If you're not careful it can get expensive and I usually like to be alert to be more productive for myself anyway.

I also shouldn't have said it makes everything taste worse, I do like sometimes when the put some like bourbon in various sauces.
