Mobile games got a huge variation, just like normal videogames.
Even if we are not counting console ports, it got some games that are better than some old console/PC games, so yes, mobile games are videogames.

Yes, they literally are. If you want to make the argument whether or not people who specifically play mobile games are "gamers" is entirely different issue. I personally think it boils down to the reason you play it, if you're playing it because it's a hobby sure but if you're doing it out of convenience I would argue no.

I think this is a good point. it also extends beyond mobile games
for instance, my wife does not consider herself a gamer. she plays (and beat before me!) mario odyssey and hollow knight, but she has no interest in 99% of games. she used to watch me play the witcher because she liked the story, but I could literally sell my games/console/pc and never touch them again and she wouldn't even bat an eye because she has other hobbys she prefers

The thing is "the definition" isn't objectively inclusive of mobile games, it's just not exclusive of them.

People know what you're talking about when you say video games.

I know everyone these days is always trying to push inclusivity and push back against elitism and everything but it honestly sometimes obnoxiously gets in the way of accuracy.

Also I'd like to point out that English dictionaries are for people who are unsure of what a word is and how it can be used. They are not a formal authority on "enforcing" language usage.

I'm still not sure how it's inaccurate to say that mobile games are video games. You're not really saying why they don't accurately fit the definition as it stands.

Idle games are videogames reduced to their most primal parts. You've got the stats of an rpg, the highscore counter of an arcade game; and what's a timer if not the same exact thing as a useless fetch quest or grind session, but without all those pesky graphics, gameplay, sound, or cinematics getting in the way?
