It's... Interesting so far. Only like level 18 or 19. I played the fuck out of MapleStory 1 for years, but haven't gone back in a long time.

The biggest difference is of course that this one is in 3D, with a blocky Minecraft-esque world but with Maple cartoony characters and buildings. The grind so far also seems far less of an issue. You get a lot of experience from quests.

The world seems really big. I feel like I've barely scratched the surface when looking at the world map. There are some returning towns like Ellinia and Kerning City.

There seems to be a big focus on user-created stuff. You can buy a piano and play sheet music that you buy, but you can also make your own music. The other day I heard someone performing the Halloween theme in town. You can put up funny pictures as banners around certain places, but you can get in trouble if you post things that are inappropriate or political. Everyone gets their own house you can warp to pr invite friends to, which you can decorate how you want, but you can also buy plots of land in places to build a public house anyone can come into. Some people have put a LOT of time and effort customizing these.

Over all it feels like a lot of fun, but almost overwhelming right now.

I've been told you can just do the main quest from 1 - 60.

I opted to ignore it completely and I've gotten to level 30 mostly by completing Exploration Goals on every map and crafting.

My one criticism is abilities don't seem to be balanced very well. Every character I've made has one attack that's better than the others and there's no reason not to spam it 100% of the time.

Yeah, I've done some of the story quests but I've been trying to do a lot of the smaller side-quests and stuff.

Yeah, that was kinda true with the first game as well. As a Fire/Poison mage I almost exclusively used Fire Arrow unless the enemy was strong against it. In this one I've mostly been spamming the Flame Wave and occasionally using the Arcane Blast when the cool down wears off.

Agree with everything in this topic so far! I played the first MS when I was in middle school. Almost 26 now. Overwhelming is an understatement. Having fun grinding, but that and questing are all I feel like I've done so far. Add me if you want, my wizard's name is SoupyPoopy

I play NA: East if that makes a difference. Seems like it might. It'd be kinda neat to have a PotD guild.

Yeah. I've still barely scratched the surface of the world map, but I'm close to level 30 now just from doing quests and exploration goals.

Started a guild called "poopy".

Pretty good from what I've heard. At least a couple areas have updated versions of the first game's songs. The Ellinia remix is pretty nice.

I liked the game, but got stuck somewhere bad kind of early on, which sucked. I may have been able to get unstuck. Or could've asked a friend for help, but eh...

The grind was heavily knocked down, the real problem with Maplestory was Nexon and their shitty ass ways.

Haha. A similar thing happened to me. There was a quest that was available at a low level but asked you to go to Omega Sector, which was a relatively high-level area which you could only reach by going to the bottom of the Ludi Tower.

At level 11, I managed to afford the trip to Ludibrum and got a good ways down the tower through a combination of Magic Guard, potions, and luck... But then I died. And since you respawned at the nearest town, I ended up in Omega Sector. Which is where I was trying to go, but then I couldn't get back UP. I remember making a thread about it here on GameFaqs, at a time when it was among the top PC game boards. I honestly don't remember if I was saved by a random GF poster or by my friend who had been playing also.

I think something similar happened. I did a quest that I was able to receive at a low level. When I got enough to go somewhere, I paid for a trip. Everything was very strong. So, I could beat anything. But then I also couldn't get enough money to go back, either. Or something like that...

Grind was super annoying pre exp table changes. I got to third job before they did and that took a ton of time to achieve. If I were to play now, I could likely hit 70 in a day or two.

Yeah I was over level 100 back in the day and it took a long time; it's more bearable with friends but it seemed like quests rarely gave you enough exp to be worth the effort.

Then there was that DAMN glass shoe quest.
