I'm trying to get into ESO but it really feels like I'm just playing the game alone, and other people just happen to be playing as well. Same goes for WOW.

That's a big issue in most MMO's nowadays. The rise of automatic party finders, soloable content and general casualization has almost ruined socialization or the need for it.

Play ffxiv.

People spam shout chat and dance with each other.

I think the reason wow is not social is because all the social people too busy spamming trade chat.

Since ffxiv has no trade chat, people have to actively be social.

Yeah, same when I played WoW, it was always me and my one friend who wanted me to play it with him. I (or both of us) would join up with groups for dungeons then never see those people again. We wouldn't even talk during the dungeon, it would be completely silent. They'd be over in like ten minutes tops.

I mean might as well play a better co-op game that only needs two people.

I guess it's different at high levels with raids and guilds and whatnot but I don't have the patience or time to play the game that long.

This but stay away from ones that spam general chat. They usually have hundreds of people with 90% of them being inactive or silent and are generally awful

MMOs don't tend to be especially social unless you're playing around launch.

This. It's either that or you have to be incredibly social. I find it easier to just randomly help people out on like healing/buffing, and get to know them through that

This is why Everquest was, and still is, my favorite MMO. You actually had to socialize and strategize with people.

back in the early 2000's mmo communities just bonded better.

Quality of Life stuff has done more damage to MMO communities than it has helped imo

Also it depends on the game. Ive found stuff like FFXI/XIV and Guild Wars very friendly. Granted FFXI forces you to socialize to make grinding tolerable.

I mean on ffxiv random people will come and wave to me and we will chat when I just standing around my house.

People will organize mount parades and other bs.

Yet it has duty finder and all that you guys claimed killed mmo socialization.

Actual gameplay is nearly dead when it comes to socialization. There are people that make it their lives to idle in towns and whatnot that doesn't mean it's social.

In ffxiv people almost always say hi when entering a queued content.

That's too bad to hear, I played Star Wars Galaxies back in its heyday. That was hardcore. Jedi had permadeath. People who were rich had a lot of influence. You could put bounties on peoples' heads and have other people kill them and take their stuff. You could make a secret safe house in the middle of nowhere, or have full blown faction battles for territory

You HAD to talk, a lot. I learned to type really fast

Guild Wars 2 is very social. It has its flaws in terms of socialization but honestly it's the most social MMO I've played in awhile. People talk and have fun a lot more than in most other games.

That depends on you tbh.

Once they say hi, that is an opening.

If they say hi and someone else says hi and that is it. Then sure.
But you can always get people to talk more by saying other stuff. "hey nice glam, that is cool!" blah blah

I find FFXIV to be super social, all I do is tell someone their character looks pretty and we spend the next hour talking about random stuff followed by a friend request. Then every time we run into each other we sit down and chat some more, or more commonly they offer to help and we complete some dungeons together every now and then.

Sometimes even after completing a duty I send a tell to someone saying that they were awesome back there and that always starts a nice conversation.

Responding to a "hi" with just another "hi" is not going to lead nowhere lol.
