For additional context: - Prior to the event, a Republican headquarters was vandalized and threatening messages regarding the event were left at the scene. - 3 Antifa protestors were arrested for assaulting and robbing a man who had left the event separately from the Proud Boys group. - Antifa protestors instigated the fight by throwing objects at the Proud Boys (at least one bottle that I know of). With that in mind, the Proud Boys were probably technically justified in responding violently to the antagonism. However, I think they lose the claim to self defense after they responded with such overwhelming force and continued to stomp and kick on the Antifa protestors after they had been defeated. For what it's worth, apparently McGinnes has urged the Proud Boys involved to turn themselves in to police.
