Animation is probably okay although my general dislike for the presentation of storytelling in anime is probably too well-documented. I tend to find it very disjointed.

Astronaut from Earth accidentally goes through a wormhole and ends up on the other side of the galaxy where he there is a whole lot of alien life and he and a ship full of alien misfits try and escape one of the most powerful alien races around.

That's the initial premise anyway.

Its a show from the early 2000s that went 4 seasons and a miniseries.

Hm. It might not be your thing, but check out Fang of the Sun Dougram. It's a mecha show, but extremely slanted towards political thriller stuff. The toy company wanted a show to sell toys with but didn't do any oversight over the TV show, so the writer made something pretty mature and full of backstabbing, doublecrossing and clever plans where the titular mech is more of a symbol than something that actively turns the tide. It's legitimately one of the most GoTlike shows I've ever seen, by a lot.

I started watching back when it started, actually! For Game of Thrones. I was probably like 3 when Deep Space Nine started.

I'll actually be watching DS9 again soon with one of my roommates. He really got into TNG recently and is planning to move onto DS9 after he finishes the last season sometime soon.
