So since time started with the universe, that means the universe HAS always existed... since always is a unit of time,

What we consider time is just the rate of a chemical reaction.

But did time start with the universe or is our universe simply connected to a bunch of other universes via black holes?

Time requires perception, or something that can tell the difference between one state or another. It's much like the question if a tree falls in a forest and nobody is around, does it make a sound?

The answer isn't as simple as "of course it does", it still generates sound waves, but if nothing is available to intercept those waves, then is sound really being created?

The universe had to come from something, many think this is all computer generated as it's very orderly and logical. The universe it springs form (where the program was created) might have much less logical laws (wishing things into existence etc).

Where did that universe come from then? Well, it was wished into existance lol...but it would not have been as orderly because of that. Who originally wished it in that case?

That leads back to a general idea that one infinitely bored entity originally existed and created everything else to try and keep entertained/occupied.

No matter how you look at it though, something originally came from nothing, because there is no other explanation.

If the universe has always existed then there was never a "nothing" for it come from.

Was the universe created 5 minutes ago?

You only interpret time based on your memories but your memories are a chemical reaction that is occurring at this very exact moment in time. You are not actually looking into the past, hence why you can remember incorrectly. However, in theory a supernatural (to us) being could have created the entire universe 5 minutes ago and simply (simple for it) instilled the chemical reactions in us to make us believe that the universe is more than 5 minutes old.

Although, and I have nothing backing this up, and I probably don't understand this enough to really know what I'm talking about, but I like to think our universe was part of a previous universe that underwent a false vacuum decay. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_vacuum

The Doctor: When was this?

The Beast: Before time.

The Doctor: What does that mean?

The Beast: Before time.

The Doctor: What does before time mean?

The Beast: Before time, and light, and space, and matter. Before the cataclysm. Before this universe was created.

The Doctor: That's impossible. No life could have existed back then.

The Beast: Is that your religion?

The Doctor: It's a belief.

I wouldn't say it's meaningless, it's certainly something to try to learn about at some point if it's possible to.
