Like you're 'normal' (as normal can be), you lead an active and fit lifestyle, have a solid girlfriend/wife, a great job/career, you travel, play guitar, ....but you like your geek-culture too, but don't let it show.

You've read every X-men title from the 1990s, you own the past 5 generations of consoles and healthy library for each, you know all the Star Wars quotes, and memorized every scene from all the Tarantino flicks. And even have a boat-load of useless, but interesting trivia like "the videogame crash of the early 1980s", or Saddam Hussein was buying up all the PS2's because the CPUs were more powerful than what they use to build missile guidance systems with.....and so on.

....but when you run into a 'fellow' geek, and he geeks all over you because of mutual interests, doesn't anyone have this urge to tell them to shut the hell up? As you look over your shoulders and hope no one is listening.

Because you do have a life outside of geek-culture, and don't want to give that impression that this culture reflects your own life?

y'know....?

My power levels are off the charts most of the time. Everyone I know basically knows this.

Most of my friends share at least a couple of my geeky interests, though, so I never worry about anyone judging me for it. I'm not actually sure I'd ever want to interact with someone who had zero geekitude themselves, though - they'd be too boring for me to want to waste my time on.

Or do you mean, "Who is here is normal but has at least some geek interests?" And, quite frankly, video game ownership is broken up among many groups so that hasn't really been a qualifier in ages.

Not really a geek thing either.

You mean dealing with somebody who has poor social skills, not specifically just a geek.

I'm a almost 32 year old adult so don't need to be in the closet about anything. I do however want someone in a closet.

Somewhere in between I guess? I'm not super geeky, I look like a normal guy but I'm not ashamed to wear a geeky shirt out in public. Hell just yesterday, power rangers shirt and a full metal alchemist jacket. Day before that a flash shirt.

Today I dressed more plainly.

tbh, a lot of traditionally geeky t-shirts are pretty mainstream nowadays. You can find Flash t-shirts at countless retailers rather than needing to go a comic book shop or specialty store. And in some cases people just like the logo. I have a few video game t-shirts where I either haven't played or barely touched the game referenced.

See I ain't going to wear something I'm not a fan of. Never read flash comics but I liked him in the justice league stuff Ive read the cartoon, and I like the TV show. The shirt is actually based on the show season 1 as its darker res and no white in the circle.

Power rangers I don't keep up with but it was my show when I was in grade school and this shirt is of the og 90s power rangers with green ranger to boot. So that's a nostalgia thing. And FMA is the only anime I ever got obsessed with as a teen. Liked a few others but not to that level.

I also have a tri force belt buckle but the thing is a pain to sit down with while wearing so its just stashed away somewhere.

Also have a Mario hat but I quit wearing it because it wasn't the most comfortable hat and its bright green and super bright colors aren't to my taste

Why not? Is it a cultural appropriation thing? =p

Maybe because I've never been big on labels/identifiers, I've never really worn something where I don't like the aesthetics on their own merits. Certainly not as a teen or adult, anyway. For instance, the X-Men were probably my favorite superhero team, but I don't believe I've ever worn any X-Men merch.

Granted, there are some things that I like and like the logo/etc but don't touch the merch due to other reasons. Case-in-point would be the Punisher logo, which both has an unfortunate connotation with mass shooters nowadays and projects a belief regarding criminal justice I don't condone. And Flash stuff I haven't touched as much because of its association with BBT.

tbh, I've always liked the idea of decorative buckles, but they tend to be a bother. I've had quite a few over the years.

No everyone knows I love my Nintendo and my figures and such. No one's ever made fun of it in anyway so iunno why they would. Pretty common to be into games, retro stuffs, figures/toys, comics, cards, tech and so on.

Its not a "cultural appropriation" type of thing I'm just not into trends and I'd I don't like or have no interest in something one I'm not giving them my money and two I'm not advertising for them mostly cause I don't want to give people the impression I'm a fan.

If I wear it its because I am a fan and not afraid to show it.

Only exceptions are free t shirts. Idk why but I don't turn down free t shirts. Hell I got a burger king t shirt that I got for free. And a AC/DC black ice shirt (bands good album sucks)

I guess yes. I don't try to hide it, but I don't emphasize my geeky and other interests to people who wouldn't be interested. Golf teacher, tournament martial artist, sports car enthusiast and collector, pilot, cooking hobbyist, gardening hobbyist, collector of video game consoles and games, collector of science fiction books and movies, model builder, collector of science toys, among other things.
