My theory has always been that it's a young adult phase that adults mostly grow out of. My vast sample size includes me, who was super into anime in college but have almost entirely stopped giving a shit about it these days, bolstered by the fact that my 19-year old nephew has started getting really hardcore into anime. Even of that's the case for most of them, there are always some who never grow out of it. I feel like I'm just on the right side of weeb. I'm still mostly passionate about anime and stuff after twenty years, I have a healthy curiosity of Japanese culture and the history of anime, and most of my music collection is from Japanese artists. These days, I barely pay attention to the actual wrestling, as much as I do all of the behind-the-scenes drama in the company. The real world business stuff is more interesting than most of the actual storylines at this point. Case-in-point - the ridiculous drama of the company insisting on going to Saudi Arabia in spite of the recent controversy. It's super complicated and ridiculous, with tons of nuance and drama.
