seems probable that the change was made on request of someone above her seeking PR candy, likely as a result of some personal conversations about her experiences growing up with family members who told her they were native american. globe article gave additional info on the subject about her personal reasons as well. certainly makes sense that someone would be more open about family history right after that family dies. i talked more about my dad at work after he died than before.

I can see that being the cause, if not scholarships. Those are really the only 2 reasons that seem plausible, though. As for the other globe article, I don't think a reasonable person would change their ethnicity at their job based on being a tiny percent that ethnicity even IF a family member had recently passed.

Well, scholarships specifically have been eliminated as a possibility.

Warren, who graduated from the University of Houston in 1970 and got her law degree from Rutgers University in 1976, did not seek to take advantage of affirmative action policies during her education, according documents obtained by the Associated Press and The Boston Globe. On the application to Rutgers Law School she was asked, "Are you interested in applying for admission under the Program for Minority Group Students?'' "No," she replied.

Part of this is that you're somewhat conflating her DNA with her family history. If I rank the groups that I share heritage with by blood, I get a different ordered list than when I list by which heritages my family most references in our traditions, cooking, etc.

- DNC got rid of super-delegates

wait really?

when did that happen?

https://www.npr.org/2018/08/25/641725402/dnc-set-to-reduce-role-of-superdelegates-in-presidential-nominating-process

The Democratic National Committee dramatically reduced the power and influence of "superdelegates" in selecting the party's presidential nominee at its summer meeting in Chicago on Saturday, ahead of what's expected to be a wide-open Democratic field in 2020.

DNC members voted on a proposal to take away the role of elected officials and other party dignitaries in selecting a nominee at the Democratic convention leaving it up to delegates selected in primaries and caucuses only unless the process becomes deadlocked.

Opponents of the move stood down and the measures were adopted in a voice vote. A DNC panel overwhelmingly approved the move earlier this summer.

The reforms adopted also encourage states that hold presidential caucuses, run by state parties, to switch to primaries, administered by state and local election officials. They require states with caucuses to provide for absentee participation, citing barriers to participation ranging from military service to child care to disability.

So is she like 1/36 or something less?

Might as well not even bring it up then.
Because the typical amount to qualify for tribal status in most regions is at least 1/4.
And there's a lot of Native Americans who agree with those rules.

Too many people 1/8 or less running around claiming they got some "Apache/Cherokee/Blackfoot princess/chief ancestor" and don't have any real association to modern tribal affairs at all...

Hate Trump, but also admit that Warren is full of shit. Don't double down on supporting her claims just because you hate Trump. That's a stupid reason to believe her crap.

To be fair Trump is the one who made it a thing and wanted her to take a DNA test to prove it. Of course now hes acting like he never said anything about that but what else is new?

1/1024 is minuscule.

About 12% of European Americans have at least 1% Native American ancestry, but that doesn't make them a Native American or a minority. Warren have way less than 1% and having such a tiny fraction doesn't make her Native American. I'm sure there are many whites with at least 1% African ancestry, but you don't see them claiming to be black.

She's a joke at this point. This DNA test just proves her to be even a bigger joke than we expected.

For everyone saying she's a joke: how?

She never used any benefits for Native Americans.

She's not the one who has brought this up constantly.

She did this to prove a point against a giant bigot.

And why do you care if it's important to their family that they have a single Native American ancestor? Maybe in their family they find that culturally significant and like to celebrate it because of all the horrible things that have happened to Native Americans in this country. What is it to you? Who cares what percentage she is? She's not try to get benefits for having the ancestor. That's already been proven false and literally no one in this topic had been able to post proof supporting it.

Its amazing how deliberately stupid people are being about this subject.

Being part American Indian was part of the history of how her family came to exist. Its not a detail about her day to day life. Its the equivalent of my great grandfather coming to America to escape the Irish potato famine. No one questions me when I identify as Irish American.

She received no benefits from this and its only a story because Harvard Law listed her as a Native American in order to make themselves look more diverse. Thats it.
