I could do more good as a teacher but god putting up with some little shit's crap day after day...I don't know. There's always gonna be some tiny little prick who thinks he's the shit.

Retail the assholes are bigger and maybe more frequent, but they're probably going to be a one time experience. Good retail workers also can be a bright spot in someone's day.

I'd go with teacher though in hopes that I can help some good kids out.

from the perspective of a student I think the iron maiden needs to be brought out of conjecture to be used exclusively in schools

how about this. assuming this isn't a gas station and is more a supermarket environment, how many stories do you know of them being robbed at gunpoint/having a gun drawn on them?
now how many stories do you know of a student drawing a gun in a school?
I rest my case

Teacher. Develop lesson plan to coast through teaching after a few years, get summers off and lots of holidays during the year, work additional job in summer for more income, get pension.

Seems pretty good compared to retail.

Let's see, teachers have to deal with assumptions of molesting their students, beating their students or showing favortism to their students asshole parents will never believe their thug of a baby would ever do something like shove a kid's hand into the fucking blender and pretend to turn it on to freak them out or try to get the teacher the knuckles just for giving them a bad grade. At least with retail you can plaster on a fake smile while wishing those fucking punks just explode as soon as they hit the parking lot but the pay is dog shit!

ITP: Someone has no idea what teachers do.

My mom is a middle school teacher. The horror stories I hear on a regular basis are infuriating and maddening. From the administration to the students to the parents...good GOD...the parents...

I genuinely do not know how she has put up with everything she's dealt with all these years. And I am not exaggerating when I say that I am astonished there haven't been teachers shooting up schools nearly as often as students these days. It is absolutely beyond ridiculous what they go through.

Retail for me, and it's not even close. In fact, it's so not close they're on completely different continents.

That's a hard choice. That really is.
I've worked retail. It depends on the customers and your bosses but you could have a good experience or a miserable one. I did clothing and Best Buy.
I work in schools now. So I encounter teachers daily. Talk to them, see the crap they have to put up with. People think in being a teacher you'll change the world. Oh hell no. Let that dream die right now. The curriculum is made by the district. Most or all of whom aren't educators but elected scum. They have asses to kiss in setting it either through garbage state standards or catch all contracts with "think tanks". Essentially people getting paid to make these decisions can't so they spend money to have the decisions made for them. Waste of money. Typical though.
The teachers can't go very far off the set curriculum to actually help and educated these kids otherwise they get docked on their performance reviews and aren't picked up the next year. That's also a way to keep teachers from getting tenure. They simply aren't there long enough. Look at what kids learn now, how smart(dumb) they are. The younger generations. We haven't become this stupid as a people on accident.
And that's before you add in the drama of dealing with bratty kids and even worse parents ready to jump down your throat. The schools don't want to hold any kids back because they fail. They want them out of there. Failing stupid kids results in fewer dollars from the state.
It's all about money when it comes down to it. The fear of losing it to be specific.

I've worked in retail for over a decade, but I think being a teacher would be better because I could teach kids how to actually succeed in life.
