- Consists of all fairly recent games that usually otherwise underperform.

- LoL is not only ineligible, but Undertale, Overwatch, and Fortnite will likely have died down; so an infamous rally is less likely to turn fodder into champion.

That said, a few games could still act as "popularity proxies" for older games; like BotW and Smash Ultimate. Time will tell though,

Definitely looking more forward to that contest than this one; even though this one will still be good since it's a proper 1v1 CB in 8 years.

GotD is probably the best contest ever, and it was perfect for 99% of its run but the one issue was Majora's Mask kind of spoiling it, because that game was basically a proxy for the 90's. It was a game that was released mere months into the 2000s that was based effectively entirely around a 90s engine and assets from a 90s game on a 90s system.

This time that is much less of an issue. There are two games I can think of that would be the "2000s proxy" - Super Mario Galaxy 2 (in many ways the Majora's Mask of the 2010s) and to a lesser extent Mass Effect 2 (which IIRC only released in 2010 instead of 2009 because they wanted to avoid Modern Warfare 2). I really don't think either of those games will run away with it! Breath of the Wild probably takes it.

by the rules of the contest it wouldn't be since its initial release date was 2009

League of Legends wouldn't be either so SBAllen would probably be in favor of this contest

I wouldn't worry about Mario Galaxy 2 being some sort of super proxy. It lost to Mass Effect 1 in 2015. I wish it would happen though because Galaxy 2 is the best Mario game.

I'd be more worried about Odyssey as far as Mario proxies go.

But I really don't think proxies will be a problem. BotW will still likely win sure, but I think that's due to natural strength over anything else.
