The Michelle Obama thing made things worse for schools/foods btw.

A lot of districts in my area had to change to contracting companies of extremely low quality and only the wealthier districts managed to stay with decent food.

Just saying. My mom manages the food contracts for an entire county and they were basically forced into fucking over the kids.

No. The way the law or whatever worked was that schools are required to order a set criteria of foods - ie fruits, veggies, etc. based on predetermined nutrition

An example would be the school was required to buy and supply so many apples, bananas, etc. in the morning to students.

Many schools in Michigan don't have that kind of money, so were forced to sign contracts with suppliers of lower quality whereas the wealthier districts had more financial leeway and could continue their previous contracts which already exceeded the standards.

So basically - rich districts like the one I went to were fine and only noticed a change in available items; not quality.

Schools in the Detroit suburbs? They had a minimum of low quality "healthy" food and then a fuck ton of absolute shit to fill the rest of the school menu because the required foods cost too much.

It's fucked. A lot were close to the standard and had mid-range food but had to cut corners like crazy to avoid ridiculous fines.
