I was walking up to go to a check out line. A Walmart employee walked up and asked if I was ready to check out. I said yes, and she pointed to the Self Checkout lane. I had literally walked past all of them and was about to go up to a cashier. It should have been pretty obvious I didn't want to use it... Next time, I'm not going to that area until I'm way past the self-checkout lanes... But I'll probably forget since I rarely go to that Wal-Mart...

She did say I could call her if I needed help. Maybe I could have called her and asked her to scan and bag all my stuff...

I just don't like 'em... Plus, if I have a lot of stuff, it's much faster to go to a cashier. Not to mention, I was pretty tired after getting of work and didn't want to have to work someone else's job because they didn't wat to. And stupid stuff like the thing trying to tell me how to scan my groceries like I didn't just scan something. And having to bag the item before scanning again. And then, asking me a question on the screen while I was paying. I was looking at the card thing, then a question pops up on the screen. I didn't see it since I was paying, but I had to answer before it would authorize the card. But it's not like the card reader said anything. Just looked like it was just taking a while to read the card. I would just rather go to a cashier...

Also, for some reason, they just make me mad...

Maybe it's a location thing. But it's always much faster with a cashier for me. While I'm taking everything out of the cart and putting it on the belt, she can scan and bag it. Once I'm done with that, I can go right to putting all the bags into my cart. I'll just insert the card(wish I could still just swipe, but I can only do it at certain places), and keep putting bags in the cart. Quick, easy, efficient.

With self checkout, I have to do it all by myself. Which means it takes longer. It would probably be about the same speed if I had another person, depending on the person. But I usually go shopping by myself...

Self checkout for groceries is only remotely worth it if you have the thing where you scan your stuff as you go and then just scan the gun at the end and are done in 5 seconds. Otherwise, it takes forever.

Also I continue to be baffled that the majority of people at my grocery store that use self-checkout don't use that. Do they just like wasting their time?

You could have told her that you'd rather have a person help you.

If I'm just running into stop and shop for a random item or lunch at work, self checkout is faster. If I have a cartful of things, I'm going to a normal checkout.

Bullshit, if I have to use one more often than not it breaks after just a few items, then the Self-checkout supervisor or whoever has to come fix it themselves, it's not uncommon for me to see them racing between kiosks during busy hours because the damn thing won't scan anything properly.

I remember seeing those back in my home town. Those are actually pretty cool and I like them. But they don't have those hear, sadly...

Geez and I thought I was lazy...

I really like the self serve lanes. Usually smaller lines, and I am more motivated to finish faster than the cashier who is riding the clock. With those scanners I can scan everything while it is in the cart so I don't have to worry about bagging stuff.

If I only had big items and not a lot of them, that would be fine. But based on the stuff I normally buy, I would definitely need bags...

Yeah some of the grocery stores here don't have them but thankfully the one nearest me does.
