Windows XP is essentially Microsoft's Dark Side of the Moon.
Everything before had been building up to it, and everything after was just leaden with bullshit nobody really wanted.

I still use it.

So does BTB, if I remember previous topics where it's been mentioned.

It's what I'm used to. I haven't had a computer in 6 years though, and haven't really needed one, so I'm not used to Windows 10 aside from the stuff I use it for at work. Even then, it's just different tabs using chrome

I dont even know if modern browsers would work well on XP. last time I used chrome on an xp machine which was 2 years ago I got messages that the browser would no longer support the OS.

Which, to be fair it came out in like 2001, so eh.

Man, XP was great but the only ways I see this making sense are in terms of layout and older game support.

XP is better than windows 10.

I still have 2-3 XP machines running here. They are for CNC machines. It still runs great, no issues.

I actually found it annoying that my cam software won't work on XP anymore, so I have no need for additional upgrades.

I still would, were it not for the fact that XP doesn't receive security patches anymore.

I have always hated XP, though one reason could because both PCs I've had that had XP on them were Pentium 4's.

Wasn't P4 like the pinnacle of intel chips before multi-cores became a thing? What do you have against them?

Depends on the era, imo. Later high end chips just ran ridiculously hot by their design, all their speed essentially came from clock speed. Intel later figured out how to work their best features, like hyperthreading, into more efficient designs, but at the time it was brute force trying to keep pace with AMD's Athlon. Of course, earlier in the P4's life cycle the whole RDRAM shit storm was reaching critical mass, though Rambus today is basically just a patent troll.

The P4, and the Netburst architecture upon which it was built, were notoriously bad. Any other chip at the same clock speed would leave the P4 in the dust. It's incredibly inefficient. Even the chips with hyperthreading don't help much because the underlying framework is so slow. And the late gen P3's smoked the early gen P4's, from what I read online. Worst of all, in my experience, the P4 is not built to handle multitasking.

But most importantly for someone who has no choice but to use it in 2018, it was never built to handle today's modern websites and HD video. It struggles, it chugs, it stutters, it stops. I assumed that installing a better graphics card would help, but it did not.

i don't really see why you'd need to use XP when 7 exists and has always been good. i can't imagine XP runs much well anymore, and you'd be opening yourself up to security issues

When I worked at the Corps of Engineers recently, the PC used to program the keycards to get into the building still ran Windows 95. It even had an AT power supply. But it was a completely standalone machine with no connection to the network at all, so security wasn't a concern, and if it works, don't fix it. The power supply finally blew a cap or something and quit working.

XP was great, but since 7 is basically just a modern version of XP, I don't see why anyone wouldn't at least upgrade to that. You'll hit a whole slew of incompatibility issues still trying to use XP.
