"Old Bay" is a brand name. It's not a generic term for the type of seasoning.

Lays is most likely using a generic descriptor because they don't want to pay for the rights to the branding. Or they might have tried to acquire permission to use it but couldn't do so because it was already being licensed to one of their competitors.

Are Old Bay chips available nationally?

They are. But it's a large region - about half the US.

They are called Walkers over here. In general I like the new flavours they always bring out. In the UK they have at least one promotion a year where they do this. However the bags are often full of air and hardly any crisps in the packet. They tend to charge quite a bit for them too so I just buy them when they are on offer for a quid.

I dont like how thin and oily they are. It's like theyre made out of potato pulp instead of actual slices.

I dont mind lays chips but generally i'll go for something else. I love buying some of those random fancy chip bags though at the store. where you get less and it costs more, but the taste is usually better.

like this one i bought had chips made from like 4-5 different potatoes(russet, sweet, red and i forget) and it was amazing.

Not sure if they have the max ones in other countries but Walkers Max are thick, crinkled cut crisps and are better than the normal ones.

I liked baked chips the most, honestly. Fried ones do tend to taste better (but not Lays), but the texture of them really puts me off. I forgot the brand but they were fried and my mouth was literally filling with liquid oil from eating them, absolutely disgusting.

They usually are but occasionally I've seen them in Arizona. I've had their ketchup chips before.
