I think if these prices hold and stay low(which in my infantile investing mind they should as economy is doing well) I want to save up and buy a kilo bar(32.15 oz) or a 50oz, though when I bought this one they were all sold out of 50oz bars, because the prices are so low.

Not low from a historical standpoint, but low as in last few years low.

Without doing a full on tabulation this new acquisition will bring me up to about 48-50 oz, which is cool.

14.33 an oz today, when i bought this new bar it was 14.44, and when Ive bought silver in the past it was around 16-17 bucks.

I dont know much about osmium but its price isnt quite like silver wherein the spot is set and there seems to be little negotiation involved. the price of osmium seems to stay at around 400 dollars but then people negotiate the actual price they will sell/buy for.

osmium is a rare metal, hence the price being high(around 400 dollars an ounce) but its also rarely used, so the demand for it is low.

If you're investing in precious metals as a way to get rich, you're doing it wrong.

I have thousands in goldmoney but it's not to play the market, it's to have a secure trustfall Incase the US dollar ever tanks.

i'm not really trying to get rich, because in order to do so i'd have to have thousands of ounces.

I just think silver is cool and as such like doing some small investing in it.

if I wanted to prepare for the US dollar to collapse I should buy some combi bars

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/-B8ZHDsorms/maxresdefault.jpg

1 gram increments you can just tear off when needed.

This 10oz bar looks different than what I thought. its longer and thinner than my 5oz ones. I figured it would look like my 5 oz bar but chunkier.

Weighing it on my scale its 10.12 ounces troy, but thats with its cover on. I havent taken it off yet, really dont see a point cause then id need to buy a 10oz holder for it.

And no, i couldnt be bothered to take a good picture of it:

Are the $2000 gold combibars worth it?

No.

It seems like a novelty product but it would seem to come in handy during a financial collapse or apocalypse becuase you can tear off one gram at a time and use it for things. I cant tear my 10oz bar apart so easily.

However buying silver by the gram isnt worth it because it isnt super expensive in the first place, so youd be paying much, much more premium vs. buying it by the oz. it usually gets cheaper with less premium the bigger you get.

Hm dunno if i missed it or you edited in gold after but for gold its a little more practical. most people cant afford it by the oz, so the only way to get it is by the gram. I dont think the combi bars are worth it though, i'd just straight up buy a gram at a time or several loose grams.

edit: actually working out the math i might be wrong and the combibar can be cheaper. But buying it by the gram isnt the most efficient, but also the only way for some to buy gold. though i wouldnt unless i could afford at least an OZ, but im sticking with silver.

for a total of 46.9941ozt in total. The value of that today is 683.76 dollars and cents

Hey argo

Found a 1909 "VDB" wheat penny today. Think it's worth like $10 or something. Unfortunately, it's not the 1909 VDB-S.

yeah a 1909 VDB is worth around 5-10 dollars depending on condition. if it was a san fransisco VDB itd go for anywhere between 500 and 2,000 dollars depending on condition.

where did you find this magical 109 year old coin?

1943 pennies are cool because they are made of steel. if you somehow find a 1943 copper penny you are rich, because they were all steel, somehow a few 1943 pennies struck on copper planchets somehow got out and are very valuable. same for 1944. all copper, if you find a steel you're rich.

and yeah, who wouldn't love a 1955 double die reverse?

I had a pretty decent pile of steel '43s, but I have no idea where they are.

I also collect Eisenhower dollars, for no real reason. The obverse on the 1976 ones is really neat.

I actually think a few of these ike dollars were stolen but i honestly do not care they were in the drawer when I signed on, and the second batch somebody paid with them because they didnt care about giving em up. so i have 7 or so of em. cool coin to have in your pocket because its large as heck. and good for tossing because its really dang big yet again and they(in most cases) arent valuable so its not loss if it get dinged.

Pure luck. I was turning in loose change at my bank and this one coin fell out of the bag. Happened to check it out before throwing it back in the bag.

Well, you should check all your change to see if you have something valuable.

if you want to go the easy route, look up key dates worth money(such as in pennies 1909 S vdb, and a few other key dates), obvious varieties worth money such as a 1955 double die obverse, obvious erros such as a clipped planchet, mule coin and silver coins(any dime pre 1965, any quarter pre 1965, any half dollar pre 1970 and nickels 1942-45).

If you want to get serious get either a jewlers loupe with 10x mag or better, or even some type of microscope to see very minute errors that could be worth thousands, such as a 1992 "close am" penny wherein the spacing between the A and M in "america" determines if its worth one cent or a thousand bucks. the difference in spacing is about as thick as 1-2 sheets of computer paper.

I think its fun with a potential payoff. Even if it bores you, at least knowing the obvious stuff to look for would help.

and while I dont care too much about foreign currency(Im in this game to make money, not necessarily start a collection) a 100 trillion zimbabwe note is something id love to own.
