I've always worked blue collar, and now have an office job

I'm here sitting on my phone talking to you guys making what I might have made in 15 years of blue collar work, where I was literally saving people's lives and literally risking my own. Here I am making more than my former supervisor for using a fax machine.

All of these dead eyed office workers who hate the idea of a high minimum wage have no clue. Burger flippers do deserve more money, they work harder than you do Mr. Paper pusher

If I order a burger with no pickles and still have pickles, that person doesnt deserve more than $5 an hour, and thats less than minimum wage like everywhere.

On the other hand, I almost never have issues with my order at places like Chick Fil A, where theyre always properly staffed, have incredibly kind workers, usually fairly clean restaurants and parking lots, and believe that they easily are deserving of $15 an hour.

Garbo workers in garbo restaraunts dont deserve the time of day.

this guy acts like nobody else fucks up at their job.

Everyone in every profession is fucking up at their job. It's not just fast food workers making mistakes.

Increasing minimum wage just makes the general cost of everything come up some. All we're doing is playing with bigger numbers.

That's only partially true.

The key thing to note is that by raising the minimum wage, it proportionally raises the wealth of the poverty-class people

Example: Average person has $100, poor person has $20, and biscuits cost $2 a piece.

If we raise minimum money to $40, and the average person has $100, and the poor person has $40, then yeah, maybe biscuits go up to $3 a piece, but poor person affords more biscuits. Things get worse for people not working minimum wage, you're absolutely right, but things get better for the minimum wage person, and they're the dudes that need the most help.

At first I was here we go.... but this is actually a good post. If fast food employees want $15-$20/hr then they have to be able to do the bare ass minimum without fucking up. Not that it is that hard to simply not put pickles on a sandwich (its one less step for fucks sake!! Its harder to put pickles on!) but alas, many fast food employees still manage to fuck this up.

It has nothing to do with working hard. I readily admit blue collar workers work harder then me, but I can do their job and they can't do mine. Supply and demand, it's really just that simple.

Totally disagree. Anyone can learn most white collar jobs I bet.

I was an avalanche mitigator. Can you debrief a team on the crystallography of the current snowpack and decide where to ignite explosives based on the wind direction and slope angle?

Most blue collar jobs are skilled, I think

I work at an MEP engineering firm.

The tradesmen that build the stuff we design (HVAC, plumbers, electricians, insulators, etc.) do a lot more in a day than many engineers typically do.

Fortunately many tradesmen are paid a decent wage but to see what some of the guys on 80-100k+ salaries do as opposed to what these guys do is mind boggling in comparison.

The thing is though, the person who took your order, didn't make the burger. He or she is still at the register taking orders, so when you go back up to the counter and yell "I said no pickles!" You're yelling at the wrong person.

Thats not an excuse. The register person still fucked up. Doesnt matter if its at McDonalds or a 5 star restaurant. The tickets go to the back and tell the cook exactly how the customer ordered it.

Again this is fast food, its not like the cook has 20 steaks on the grill and cant remember which ones are supposed to be well done, which ones are rare. Not that that is hard either, but its harder from a very hard to fuck upbasic fast food menu.

A lot of blue collar jobs are skillful though, and I sincerely doubt many white collared folks can do their jobs.

That doesn't mean the register employee fucked up. They could put no pickles on the ticket and the cook could still put pickles. If you're trying to bust things out fast to keep up with the rush, sometimes you miss something on the tag when you glance at it. Especially if it's a modification like that, since after working awhile, making the food standard becomes muscle memory. Yeah, it sucks having to wait for a remake, but I understand it happening from time to time.

I see where youre coming from but point is it is a really easy mistake to avoid.

What gets me worse than no pickles or similar is when I swing by McDonalds and get a sausage McMuffin and the damn muffin isnt toasted or buttered. Never does someone request a dry ass cold af English muffin (compared to no pickles at chik fil a... and they always seem to get this right. Prob a frequent order but cheers to them for consistency). And the nerve that those workers have to want $15+ an hour.... and cant do a simple task correctly by the book.

These jobs are designed so that no skill workers cannot fuck it up and a monkey could do it.

You should be fired if you cant figure out how to work a toaster.
