:)

Haven't really listened to anything new recently, but I still listen to Freedom Call/Rhapsody of Fire/Hammerfall/etc when they pop up in my giant shuffle through all of my music.

Haven't heard of Gloryhammer, but I know I've heard at least a few of Alestorm's songs before. If their music videos are anything to judge them by, I'm guessing their shows are pretty cool.

Anyway, how's life? Long time no see.

And here I was, initially thinking this thread was talking about a Metallica album.

Didn't even know Pantera also had an album of the same name.

Ok guys. Now that I'm back home... That Gloryhammer show was amazing. I didn't get to see much of Alestorm.

The venue was a goddamned shitshow. No fucking security. Roughly 650 people, with a stated capacity of 230.

We were so close to be the goddamned band that the crowd pushed me in to Angus McFife multiple times.

A fistfight broke out near the end of Gloryhammer's setlist. Husband and I noped out of the front row, and went back to the bar. (People had glass cups. It didn't go seriously south, but it could have.)

Gloryhammer ran out of merch a few shows back, so when the band came up to the bar, husband and I attempted to buy them drinks. The bassist (The Hollywood Hootsman) exclaimed that he got drinks for free, and proceeded to get us drunk as **** (can I say F-bombs? I forget). The Hollywood Hootsman handed out drinks to anyone within reach.

We drank with Gloryhammer while Alestorm played. Eventually, The Hootsman got cut off by the bar for being too drunk, and running up an insane tab. He got angry and stormed off. The bartender ranted at us (bystanders) about how crappy this unprofessional opening band was... Eventually, The Hollywood Hootsman came back. Husband and I bought him a drink and watched him start a karate slap fight with somebody because "Harley Davidson and American motorcycles suck ass!".

Then we hung out with Gloryhammer's guitarist (Ser Proletius) and watched the shitshow of the bassist getting even drunker. Ser Proletius complained that their booze had been cut off, due to the bassist's actions. We offered him a drink, but he politely declined.

Husband talked about guitar theory with Ser Proletius. I got The Hootsman to buy me some more drinks. ). I got pics with every member of the band, except their regular keyboardist (He's Alestorm's singer. He was onstage at this time). Protitutes showed up and creeped out Ser Proletius.

10,000/10 experience. Would do again.

Also saw Judas Priest/Deep Purple yesterday. That show sucked.

Edit- Pics.

Congrats! Anything in particular you hope to do with the certifications?

Things are good here. No kids yet, but for some reason Microsoft hasn't fired me yet, and my wife's doing well at work too. We ended up buying a house last year, so that was a pretty big thing for us (especially with how expensive the housing market is out here; I'll enjoy owing thousands of dollars a month for the next 15-30 years of my life). It's nice to have some space of our own though, so I'll put up with the mortgage.

Other than that, just living life. Looking forward to the holidays coming up.

Yeah. I majored in Wildlife Management in undergrad, but the jobs for that were super competitive **before** the current administration...

So after working in an electronics repair shop for a few years, I'm going back to school for medical lab technician training. Job market there is fairly solid, stable and well paying.

I'll have my certs in about 18 months, and I'll be making bank.

I found out a band called Amaranthe not too long ago... probably one of the most unique and widely-appealing metal bands I've ever heard, honestly. Their big gimmick is that they have three vocalists and their sound is what I have described - to their faces - as a "metal burrito with pop filling".

Also, one of their singers is a babe:

Great choice. As someone who likes metal but not so much of the messy growly stuff, this group stands out. You might like Metalite too. Then another group that's all singers goes by Van Canto.

I tend more toward gothic & symphonic/melodic metal, tbh. Seeing Within Temptation again in November, and the last metal gig I was at before that was Lacuna Coil's 20th anniversary special in London back in January - the one they filmed for the DVD they're releasing in a couple of months.

I've tried a lot and some work for me, some don't. Melodic metal is good, maybe a bit of speed too. Then although I say the growly stuff isn't for me at least bands like Devildriver, Children of Bodom, or Parasite Inc have a good enough sound to look past it. Sometimes it's just easier to list the bands instead of trying to describe it, ya know?
