Personally the only gen I've boxed my starter is 5 simply because there are pokemon available that outclass them.

Darmanitan is better than Emboar.

Lilligant is better than Serperior without Contrary.

Samurott is probably the best of the three outside of Contrary Serperior, which I'm not even sure is obtainable through legitimate methods, but Basculin, Seismitoad, and Carracosta are still viable alternatives to it.

Think 3, something about them all just seemed, meh... It was a torchic and the other 2 didn't exactly ring my bell at the time.

That said I did notice an odd trend/pattern. Gen 1 charmander originally, then bulbasaur. 2 Cyndaquil originally, then Chikorita. 3 Torchic, never restarted/returned since there wasn't a remake or reason to at the time. 4 Turtwig. 5 That snek thing.

I always pick grass, sometimes fire when younger. I've never picked a water... probably because there's a boatload of water. Which makes it a terrible boat, but anyways.

5th gen starters all suck imo so definitely that one. I don't much like the 7th gen ones outside of Inceneroar either.

Not yet, but then I usually enjoy collecting the sets of starter pokemon to use.

I dont think Ive ever boxed a starter on my first play through. I do it a lot in every gen now just to shake things up.

When I replayed Pokemon Silver a few months ago, I made the regrettable decision to choose Chikorita. I replaced it almost immediately with a Mareep I caught and never went back.

Haven't played all of them, but I've never boxed a starter. And I started on Blue and always use water.

Only my first time playing Yellow version. Basically just mained the whole game with Nidoking & Zapdos.

To prepare for end game? I usually pick the ones I will use for breeding mid game so when I'm done I'm not wasting time leveling up for moves to pass down
