https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Nintendo-Switch/Nintendo-Switch-Online/FAQ-1374625.html

After my Nintendo Switch Online subscription expires, will my Save Data Cloud files and Nintendo Entertainment System Nintendo Switch Online save data be erased?

Save data stored with Save Data Cloud cannot be kept outside of the duration of your Nintendo Switch Online membership. Nintendo Entertainment System Nintendo Switch Online also uses the Save Data Cloud, so the same applies. However, if you keep the Nintendo Entertainment System Nintendo Switch Online save data saved locally on your Nintendo Switch console, then you can use it again if you purchase another membership.

It's more than 6 months. They only delete when they do their annual purge of inactive stuff. I went a year without a sub and all my cloud stuff was still there when I resubbed again.

I'd expect any cloud-based service to delete your info if you ever stop being a member. It's pretty baffling, and great, that most actually don't. So in that vein, even though Nintendo doesn't have the same data policies as other companies with cloud-based services, they're not acting in a way that I necessarily disagree with.

Can you back your saves up offline to a local storage separate from the Switch's own native storage, though?

You have to check in, or in other words turn the console on while on a network, to keep playing them offline. Considering they're all free with the service it's not a big issue.

Netflix is a streaming service, so that makes little sense considering that you can only stream if you are connected to the service. But even going with your scenario, you can download Netflix shows on Android and iOS and keep them for a week.

You mean 2.5x, maximum. I'm sitting on about three years of Xbox Live and it only cost me about $75. One month is often $1 at random times in the year.
