I originally set out to do a 120 hour fast, but when I started to hit the late 80s I had unbelievable cravings. I didnt actually get hunger pangs, but I was craving food that I dont even like. It got to a point thats all I could think about it. I went ahead and finished the day so that I would hit an even 100 though. My previous longest fast was 72 hours.

I started my fast at
170.2lbs
Ended at
163.4lbs

You shed water weight. You will be back up to 170 by the end of next week.

This was a less than pointless exercise, you basically just self-harmed.

Nah, I intend on doing it again next week. I may even shoot for my 120 hour goal. Well see how I feel at the 100 hour mark again.

That's not that fat.

Still though, you've made great progress. You plan on getting that skin removed so you can be aesthetic?

Loose skin is such bullshit.

You use molecular water to store glycogen in your muscles, like a sponge. When you stop eating carbs you use up your muscular glycogen and lose the molecular water, and the sponge decreases in weight and size.

Has nothing to do with how much after you drink. In fact the more you drink, the less you retain.

So he's just squeezing the sponge and pretending that it's fat loss , when he's really doing nothing.

If only it were so easy to just change what you eat...

Water weight goes down but if he's literally not eating then he's literally burning fat as well.

Along with muscle after a prolonged fast.

He was criticized heavily for his water fast which led to him melting down over the span of a hundred posts.

You people are completely unaware that this is only a temporary solution (not even a healthy one) so every ounce of criticism you get is highly justified.

I love the people who instantly jump to "it's water weight" when they hear something like this. Like you're suddenly so surprised to learn that you lose weight if you don't eat. People pounding away on a treadmill eating 1800 calories a day doing it "the right way" when there's actually a much easier way.

I'm sure people won't want to believe me. Think about how gastric bypass works and how effective it is. For the first couple of months these people are probably eating less than 500 calories per day. They physically cannot eat any more. That's... why they lose weight, quickly and permanently.

All your fat is still there because you put your body in emergency mode. You risk losing your muscle mass before your fat.

Just save up for a treadmill. Eat whole grain bread and pasta with lean meat like turkey with veg like tomatoes and cucumbers for example.

Cut oil, sauces and sugar down as much as possible. And start little by little work your way up to running one mile at 5 times a week.

Then increase 0.2 miles every 2 weeks.

Buy some dumbbells and work the upper body. Keep the muscle stimulation so you dont lose muscle mass.

If you have access to a gym then even better. You can use stair machines and cross trainers and rowing machines to burn calories other than just the boring treadmill.
And doing resistance training with weights will also help burn more calories.

I only started going to the gym 3 months ago. I lost 4 pounds. But I can also lift heavier than 3 months ago. It takes time. Dont rush.
You can be a 40 year old and still get ripped and look good.

Most important thing is, be healthy and stay away from diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

Yes it is. But first you need to deplete your body fat stores and literally be starving to death.

But prolonged fasting DOES modestly reduce BMR, and dramatically reduce testosterone levels.

Yeah, I'd more say I responded to all the people which is why the topic got so big.

Same kind of people came out here. People who's advice to lose fat involves lots of grains are probably not the best to listen to.

Water fasts particularly ones supplemented with vitamins and something like a bone chicken broth which keeps your protein up so you don't lose muscle are healthy and very effective for weight loss. As with anything it's probably good to keep supervised but my doctor was totally ok with me doing it. Then 100 people came out of the gfaqs woodwork to tell me how they know more than my doctor. The food pyramid they learned 20 years ago isn't thought to be as perfect anymore, particularly when it comes to weight loss but they would hear none of it, and so it got under my skin and I did take the time to respond to each of them.

that depends on what his diet was before the fast. if he was already eating a very low carb/keto diet, then he doesnt have water weight to shed. some of the weight loss is GI tract weight, but some of that weight loss is fat.
