I haven't watched it since literally episode 1. Usually I'm a huge fan of intros, but Netflix original intros almost never grip me. BJ is one of the worst to me even among those.

Episode 10 sold me on the season. Diane/Bojack argument scene was absolutely terrific - genuinely maybe my favourite scene of the series - and the whole self-criticism, through Philbert, that a character like Bojack being vulnerable/likeable sort of enables the IRL behaviour of guys like Bojack blindsided me a bit.

Forget episode 6, that's definitely a top 10 episode in the series. Everyone was firing and the build paid off.

Bojack seasons always finish strongly so I'm looking forward to the rest.

Not sure how I feel because it basically felt repetitive but maybe that's the point? The penultimate episode featuring Bojack doing something vile, the comeback and attempt to change, etc.

But while I get it, maybe, it's not hugely satisfying television. How do you balance an emotionally honest tv show about a guy with circular, self-destructive tendencies without making the whole show feel equally circular? I thought things would be different after s4 but it's...idk, more of the same almost? And the show deliberately not using Hollyhock was a big sign of their desire to remain stationary rather than move forward imo. S4 ended with her as a hope in his life but she's almost a non-issue in this season.

Structurally the show needs to move on and flip the script next year, because Bojack's cycle of self-destruction can't be allowed to self-destruct the show itself. I kinda think it should only have one or two more seasons anyway.

The intro changes after every season too. Actually not just every season, but mid season after big changes and things happen in the show. It's not anything amazing, but it's still pretty cool and you're missing out!

alright just finished up the last 2 episodes of the season

I still think episode 6, Free Churro, is one of the best in the series, and I won't be alone in thinking that. But in any case, still a great season. It got some good laughs out of me and some episode pauses for "oh WOW" in where they went with a joke. I guess I can do some character breakdowns

I'm a LITTLE disappointed in Mr. Peanutbutter, I thought he was gonna really push through and start taking responsibility after that Halloween episode, but nothing on this show can ever be quick and easy with growth ha. Just hurts because he's so precious. Still love every scene he's in.

Todd.....they REALLY let him do his own thing, I know he's kind of always had that element but man he is so disconnected from everyone else. I think he talked to Bojack maybe 2 times the entire season? Which after their fallout and everything, sure, but wow. I kind of hope they give him something more involved next season, as hilarious as he is doing his own thing.

Princess Carolyn, they gave her some stuff. Her Carolina episode had a few gut wrenching moments. I'm not sure how I'm gonna feel with her having a baby finally but we'll see.

Diane....really good! I really really enjoyed her Vietnam episode, and of course like XIII said the argument with Bojack after the Philbert premiere was great. I also like how the season ended with her. I like how she's taken more control of her life and things in it. Plus I like the shorter hair on her.

And of course Bojack. I've already lauded Free Churro, and the penultimate episode with going in and out of the show and real life was neat especially towards the end. Ending with him going to rehab, I get what XIII's saying but I'm not as cynical about it all. I think they still manage to keep it interesting enough and somewhat hopeful. I'm gonna predict he'll break out of rehab early or have some sort of relapse, which on paper seems like the aforementioned circular cycle. But I have enough faith in the writers, they're still going strong 5 seasons in. As for Hollyhock, I don't think she's completely done. I still think they can use her as a sort of stability for him in some form, considering she's the only biological family he has. There's a bunch I'm probably forgetting to write down now, but he's still probably my favorite character? It used to be outright Mr. Peanutbutter, but Bojack is real real special.

I'm also curious on how much longer the show can go on for. I agree with probably 1-2 more seasons. More than that would feel like REALLY pushing it.

XIII, you might be interested in this part of an interview the creator did for the NYT

Q: There are a lot of references to previous seasons BoJacks questionable interactions with Charlottes daughter, Penny, for instance which also suggest that he hasnt learned much from his mistakes. Is that a creative challenge for you, figuring out how to keep this character that hasnt fundamentally changed interesting?

A: Fundamentally is a good word, because I think hes changed in small ways, moved forward, and then moved back again. A big thing we were talking about at the beginning of this season is, What does BoJack really need to do in order to change?

The things we kept landing on are: He needs to get sober and get therapy. Thats what this guy needs. His refusal to do that is the thing thats holding him. It felt like if we want to move this character forward, we need to get him to the place where hes willing to do those things.

That means he needs to find a new rock bottom to hit, unfortunately. At the end of Season 4, he thinks hes in a good place. Why would he get help then? Why would he change anything about himself? He feels like, Ive climbed out of this hole, myself. A big point of this season is that you dont have to do it yourself. In fact, this idea that you should do it yourself is harmful. BoJack feels that to ask for help from other people is a sign of weakness, and that its dragging people down, trying to get them to care about his problems. Thats something thats deeply ingrained in him.

I do think BoJack being willing to do that at the end of this season does represent real growth. But I wouldnt blame an audience for being dubious of that, based on his performance in the past.
