Yup. Console gaming has hit a plateau. It's fine, doesn't mean games arent still fun to play. But innovation is at a stand still

Touting lack of cross-platform because Sony is the best, an OS that's simultaneously clean and yet so fucking slow, and pretending like we want $15 PS2 ports instead of proper backwards compatibility.

Having ownership of Blu-Rays but no 4K player, discouraging Japanese developers to not release games on Xbox because Hurr Playstation is more popular, not letting people change their dumbass usernames because "Hurr people will troll tho". Stuff like that.

Microsoft has doubled down on the hardware and software focus since the Xbone came out and it's definitely swaying some people to the other side, myself included. All the exclusives in the world aren't gonna save your console if the fundamentals aren't there.

history has a habit of repeating itself, so it honestly wouldn't surprise me if they launched a $700 shitbox that they expected people to buy because they're the market leader

MS also reworked xbox live going from the 360 to the one, whereas PSN is still at its core the thing that they made for the ps3 that they've constantly built on top of, and that is going to limit what they can do with new hardware

I think Microsoft better hit hard in that first year with the launch titles if they don't want to sell half of the PS5 again. Even pulling a BOTW and releasing Halo Infinite crossgen will be a good start. But they really need to invest more and more money into exclusives to stand a chance. Especially if they want that early momentum.

They at least seem to be working on it so hopefully they pan out.

But we're also likely going to see Horizon Zero Dawn 2, Spider-man 2 and God of War 2 within the first year or two of the PS5. They've built themselves up quite a portfolio that will stick around. Microsoft still isn't there yet.

PS5's success depends on what Microsoft plans to do. If it's more of the same we know where people will go. As awesome as the Xbox One X features are when it comes to BC and 4k I don't think it's enough.

Then again who knows how that streaming service from Microsoft will pan out too. That's a totally new factor.

Your lack of knowledge on what is really going on in the CPU world + complete and utter bias shows how little he understands technology.

He supports a company that REFUSES to fix their old CPU's when the Specter/MeltDown bug got released.

Intel literally whined / complained about how expensive / difficult it was to patch all the old CPU's in their line up.

They literally told the public just to buy their new CPU's.

That's how much of a trash company Intel is.

I'm glad they're many years behind and so fucked on 10 nm.

Let's consider, then, just how bad Intel's execution on its 10nm technology has been, how it has hurt Intel's product portfolio.
A full generation late

Intel used to aspire to release new chip manufacturing technologies every two years -- though Intel will concede that it's been more like two and a half years per generation. In any event, this is the cadence that Intel's product designers had traditionally planned their product designs around.

Intel's 10nm technology was originally supposed to go into production by the end of 2015, but that ultimately didn't happen. Then, Intel told investors it expected to be shipping a substantial quantity of chips built using its 10nm by the second half of 2017.

That, too, didn't happen.

Intel is now claiming it will "introduce" its first 10nm products by the end of 2017, with serious volumes coming in 2018. Credible leaks have revealed that Intel is targeting availability more in the middle of 2018.

A delay in the mass-production start from the end of 2015 to the end of 2017 is a delay of two years, or roughly a full generation, at least back when an Intel generation was defined as roughly two years.

As if it couldn't get any worse, by Intel's own admission, its first- and second-generation 10nm technologies -- 10nm and 10nm+, respectively -- will offer worse performance than its upcoming 14nm++ technology . Intel says the company's 10nm technology won't open up a clear performance lead over its 14nm++ technology until its third iteration -- known as 10nm++ -- which should go into production sometime in 2020.

This is an extreme failure on the part of Intel's chip manufacturing group. It's the sort of execution one would expect from a third-tier chipmaker with a limited research-and-development budget, inexperienced management, and a short track record -- not from an organization that holds itself out as the "leader" in chip manufacturing.

They'd have to make some new exclusive franchises but that's gonna take several years now.

They formed a new AAA studio recently and bought Ninja Theory and a couple of other studios. Playground Games also seem to be working on a new Fable.

So I think they're at least building up to giving their biggest issue. Hopefully it pays off and we see some great games.
