I thought I was going to be bored out of my mind, but it was actually really damn good. It was about a black and Jewish cop infiltrating a KKK organization.

The girlfriend at the end though, "I still can't be with the enemy"

This black cop just saved you from a terrorist attack. I was hoping Rob would tell her to leave. The girl was a typical black power walking social science dictionary, and the protagonist was just "I want to be a cop but fuck I hate racism"

I especially liked the Jewish guy. And yeah, it had a snippet at the end showing Charlottesville and Trump and pointing out similarities between them and the past racists. It was very fair, and it also covered the racist side of black activism too, implying human nature generally kind of sucks. The black racists were portrayed as well meaning people that joined because of lynch mobs hate crimes and racist cops and saw no other choice, the white racists were portrayed as mostly straight up evil, with some "this gives my meaningless life purpose" sprinkled in. The whole system was portrayed as racist against blacks, because it sort of was in the 70s.

I thought I was going to watch a knockoff of Blazing Saddles, but damn that was good.

Supposedly the actual cop had some major issues with the film, but I can't remember what they specifically were although I *think* it involved embellishments.

You knew that they were going to work that shit in. A lot of movies are created as thinly-veiled commentaries on the times. Spike Lee in particular can be pretty hamfisted with his messages but most of his films (or, at least, the ones I've watched) are pretty entertaining.

It's a rough watch, but it's pretty great. The final shot right before it goes into present day is one of most haunting images of the year.
