I remember reading The Best Page in the Universe in primary school, and I got a good laugh out of it - looking back, I was probably in just the right demographic for his content at the time. Then years later, I heard about the Biggest Problem In The Universe and got into that - Maddox was definitely more of a bitch than I would have guessed, but it was a good show with some great jokes. Even Dick's Trump worship wasn't enough to really sour me on the show - I disagreed with that, but he landed some real fucking zingers during his time on the show and it became one of my favorite podcasts. Dick's just a funny dude, and Maddox's meltdowns over Titanic, the Maddox Lost song and Angelo's Mom were the funniest shit.

So to hear that Maddox had jumped off the deep end and cut Dick out of the show for petty reasons was a real disappointment. The lawsuits in particular were just some absolute low moments, because it was so frivolous and stupid - it was clear that Maddox had no chill and was just a gigantic fuck face. Suing a man for $20 million for slander and shit, following him around and trying to get related people fired for their jobs was just disgusting, and it was disgraceful that he would be so disingenuous to suggest that Dick was paying people to harass him.

Sometimes you want to hear someone lay into someone else and just throw insults and shit at them for comedic value - the group and the reasons for doing so can be stupid and fucked up, but there's nothing quite like the catharsis that comes from a top-notch angry rant. One of the best things about the Biggest Problem in the Universe were Maddox's insane rants after Dick goaded him into rage, and his rants against vegans and Garfield and shit were the main draw of his webpage. But it seems like you can't find someone who's capable of doing a rant like that for the sake of comedy who doesn't end up falling off the wagon and like becoming a Conservative, or just self-destructing and trying to bring everyone down with them. I already lost my respect for A Dose Of Buckley when he started to sound like he was huffing his own farts instead of making stupid rants about unique and funny shit, like his favorite cereal being banned because of childhood obesity. Now I have to live in a world where some internet dumbass that entertained me as a kid is going around tearing people down and trying to ruin their lives with million dollar lawsuits and personal harassment campaigns because a guy slept with an ex-girlfriend of his. It's fucking sad.

Maddox is a fucking jerkoff, and I'm glad that everything has been blowing up in his face. I hope he goes broke and has to pay libel for all the shit that he's caused. Thank God Dick has been able to get on top of things, and even managed to hijack The Biggest Debate In The Universe recently.

Well yeah, he's the sort of dickhead who likes to beat up on vegans and be like "hot sauce! steak! bacon!" and all that macho bullcrap. Of course he's an asshole to some degree, but folks like that can still maintain a healthy life while being known for vitriolic comedy.

Like of course he's going to get more toxic and get in hot water, and eventually melt down before either ghosting or behaving like an entitled dipshit for the rest of his life. But this was unprecedented, and it's disappointing all the same.

He's serious all right. Though nowadays he tries to dress his shitty behavior up with "I'm fighting harmful people who are a danger to our society!', i.e. his justification for trying to get Dick's girlfriend fired from her job as a teacher and blacklisted from her local school district.

Turning on his friends and suing them for exorbitant amounts of money because his feelings got hurt was his schtick?

Like yeah, being an asshole on the internet was his thing. But everything he's been doing post-Biggest Problem has been destroying his own brand and personally harassing a group of people who stopped associating with him over his destructive behaviour. What he's been doing lately isn't exactly the sort of shit like "for every animal you don't eat, I'm going to eat three" - it's not something that you laugh at and move on from because it's not a serious remark. It's a mentally ill man personally targeting his former friends and ruining his own life. It's depressing.

He had a really good podcast a few years ago with a guy named Dick Masterson, they'd bring in all sorts of problems that ranged from societal issues to personal annoyances and then the audience would vote on which of them was a bigger problem.

The reason he's gone ape shit lately is entirely tied to that podcast. Honestly, it's worth a listen on its own merits - Maddox loses his shit when he loses, it's amazing.

I thought he was supposed to be a caricature or something to be honest. I lot of interest humor back then seemed to be like this. Create a hyperbolic persona to rip on something while becoming one yourself, and the the viewer/reader laughs not just at the content you're insulting but also at you, the content creator, for being stupid too.

Not saying he didn't believe some of what he was extolling, but it was an exercise in reductio ad absurdum. He reduced other people's behavior to the absurd, while doing so with his own points a view. As a result, the reader realizes how dopey all extremist is or something.

I'm thinking of going back and listening to the Biggest Problem in the Universe again, I found a supercut of every time Dick played the Titanic theme on the show and there was one part that nearly had me like tearing a vein in my face, I was laughing so hard. It was when Maddox had to read an apology written by Dick about being wrong about Red Delicious apples, and it veers off into Maddox being better at determining dogs by how their dicks taste. I was fucking dying, holy shit.
