"Yes, how about one you haven't even told me," you say.

"Oh," Raven says. "Umm... Well okay, I didn't tell Rorek about the time we met an alien dog and his strangely child like owner."

"Wait, what?" you say with a chuckle.

"It was a really weird experience," she says. "Beast Boy was feeling a little underappreciated because everyone else was busy doing stuff without him."

"That sounds more like neglected," you say.

"Well, he had a hard time being independent," Raven shrugs. "But anyway, he went out into town, and had apparently turned into a dog. That's when he got mistaken for this green alien dog that had apparently crash landed the night before. The alien known as Soto, who looked like if an Easter Island head had a body, took Beast Boy up into his spaceship, thinking Beast Boy was his dog. Beast Boy told us later that he did his best to explain to Soto that he wasn't the right dog, but Soto apparently has the intellect of a toddler so he didn't quite worry about the consequences of taking someone from their planet.

"Meanwhile, the rest of us thought this other green dog was Beast Boy, trapped in his dog form. We kept chasing him around town, but he'd keep escaping us. In my case, he kept tackling me to the ground and licking me. In retrospect, we should've known that wasn't Beast Boy because he wouldn't dare try it. What gave it away was that the alien dog had an extendable tongue, like a frog's, and he used it to lick me from over 10 feet away."

"Whoa...!" you say as everyone has a chuckle. "What a cheeky little mutt."

"Yeah, to say the least," Raven says. "But given that it wasn't Beast Boy, we needed a way to trap the dog and finally figure out where he came from. Which meant I had to be bait."

You let out another laugh.

"What did that entail?" you ask.

"Just me standing in the open calling the dog," Raven says with a wray smile. "The dog basically leaped 20 feet, but was caught in the air by a special device Cyborg created. Oh, that's right, it was because the dog could somewhat shape shift. It slipped through chainlink fence like puddy, so the energy field Cyborg's device created kept it from slipping away again. Anyway, the dog then revealed another trick: it could talk. In perfect English."

"That sounds like quite the amazing animal," Mr. Dylan says.

"Well, I'd probably think so, too," Raven says, "if not for the tackling and the licking."

"Strange, you seem to like me a lot," you shrug.

Rave gasps, turns red, but still grins and laughs with her wide eyes.

"Rorek!" she scolds with a playful slap of your shoulder.

She hides her face by turning into your shoulder while the others have a nice laugh.

"I'm pretty sure there hasn't been any tackling," she manages to say.

The others laugh a bit more.

"Wait," Reece asks. "What about the licking?"

The others quiet down while they look to you two for an answer. Raven tries to hide it, but her smile curls up the corners of her mouth.

"Well, Rorek being a gentleman, he would never lick and tell," she says.

Everyone bursts into uproarious laughter, and Raven really busts out with a strong gasping fit of her own. You see underfoot that her powers are starting to make sparks and surges, and those get everyone's attention as they shoot up like firecrackers.

"Oh, sorry! Sorry!" Raven says as she calms herself down. "My powers are still strongly affected by my emotions. I should be more careful."

"It's nothing to worry about, dear," Mr. Rhodes says. "Honestly, I wish there was a way to read my wife's emotions. She can be so confounding sometimes."

The husbands in the group all seem to chuckle and agree with that.

"So how does the story end?" Roy asks Raven.

"Well, it was pretty simple after that," Raven says. "Soto's ship returned, we fought to try and get Beast Boy back, but it was his dog who convinced him to let Beast Boy go. We got Beast Boy back and Soto went home with his dog, and we haven't seen them since."

"I see," Roy says.

"Tell us anozer story," Raydon says eagerly.

"Yes, something else from your many adventures," Ralph asks.

"Or perhaps from after you met Rory," Randson asks.

"I'm with Ralph," you say. "Let's hear another adventure, one you haven't shared with me."

"Well, I'm not sure if I have any of those," she says. "Give me a second to think."

Raven looks down with a hand under her chin while she thinks. A waiter walks over and you pick up one of the deviled eggs.

"Okay," she says while you take a bite. "Rorek knows the Teen Titans have had our run-ins with Mad Mod, but I only told him about the first time we met him. That was when he had us on an oil rig he converted into his own little 'boarding school' that was also part fun house. Robin was the one who figured out it was all a trick, and exposed Mad Mod as a sort of Wizard of Oz, manipulating things behind the scenes because he was just an old geezer.

"But then came the second time a couple years later. It was the Fourth of July, the American Independence Day. Cyborg was preparing the barbecue when Mad Mod hacks the television screens of the entire city. He uses his unique hypnosis technology to brainwash all of Jump City to make it into his own form of London, and proclaimed he was King Moddy the First."

"Wow, really?" you say. "That's the most arrogant thing ever."

"Honestly, why would England want America back?" Reece says.

"Now, now," you say. "America isn't all bad."

"Yeah," Raven says. "It has its problems, but what country doesn't?"

Everyone admits to that.

"So, with Jump city now London, we went to confront Mad Mod," Raven continues. "We end up chasing him into the subway, or the 'underground' as I suppose you'd call it. However, Mad Mod used that to his advantage, and separated the rest of us from Robin. Mad Mod used some sort of device to then drain Robin of his youth and make himself young again. Mad Mod gets away with Robin as his prisoner while the rest of us are stuck running around the city battling his robot army.

"The four of us managed to find somewhere to hide. We argued over what to do next. Starfire wanted to save Robin and restore his youth so that Robin would lead us to victory. Cyborg just wanted to fight right away, going right through the robot Red Coats. I suggested we find Mad Mod, because stopping him means returning everything to normal. Beast Boy... suggested we assemble and train a gerbil commando force to fight alongside us. Obviously we didn't go with that one.

"Since we couldn't decide what one plan to go with, we went for each of them in turn. However, Mad Mod used that against us as he used old man Robin as bait to lure us into an ambush. His robots were too powerful to take on face to face. In the process, Beast Boy got himself partially hypnotized, and he ended up talking with a British accent!

"What?" you say with laughter.

"It was so strange," Raven says with a small laugh. "He was on our side fighting against 'King Moddy', but he talked with the accent, the slang, and even had pride in the 'British engineering' of the robot soldiers."

"Interesting. I wonder, how is your British accent?"

"W-What? No, I could never. Certainly not in front of some truly authentic British gentlemen."

"Well alright," you concede. "Please, continue with the story."

"Thank you," she says. "We managed to take shelter again, this time in City Hall. We felt utterly defeated, until Starfire was the one to realize the truth of democracy: Compromise. We may have found ourselves in a dead lock with our votes, but we still had the same cause. We focused on that, came up with the best plan we could together, and executed it.

"What we came up with was a guerilla tactics strategy that would also allow us to get closer to Mad Mod and Robin. Beast Boy even got to have his gerbil commandos, which was mostly just him being a gerbil.

"By this time, Mad Mod thought he had won, and he held a parade for himself. That's when we attacked, getting inside the robots and busting them up as we made our way right at Mod. We snatched his cane, played keepaway, and managed to get it to Robin. Then all Robin had to do was press the button on the side, and it completely reversed the age swapping and undid all brainwashing. Mad Mod still tried to run away, but he tripped, his pants fell down, and we saw his Union Jack boxers."

Everyone laughs and some even applaud.

"A very good story," Mr. Orville says.

"Thank you," Raven says.

"Gentlemen," Bret says from the door on the far side. "Make way for the ladies of the House of Null. Lady Rita, Ladies Rebecca and Roselind, Lady Rachel, Lady Ruth, and Lady Radella."

Your aunt, sisters, mother, grandmother and great aunt all lead the way for the return of the other families' mothers and daughters.

"Aunt Radella," father says as he and Uncle Roger bow before the eldest Null in the room.

"Aw, Ronny, Rodgy," Radella says as she gives her nephews hugs. "It's good to see you boys again. Oh and my other great nephews! Ross, Reed, you've both grown so much."

"Well it has been years since you've seen us," Reed says as he and Ross get hugs from her.

You and Raven walk over and Great Aunt Radella takes notice mostly of her.

"Well," she says with a chuckle. "You sure clean up nicely."

"Thank you...?" Raven says with uncertainty.

"And you definitely stand out," Radella says with a wry smile as she observes Raven's chest. "I had a feeling there was more to you than what I saw earlier."

"Yes, well," you say while Raven blushes. "Perhaps now that everyone is here, we begin the actual ball."

"Ah yes, that is the point of these puffed up dresses, isn't it?" Radella says with another smirk. "Well, I know traditionally for the party of the head of the family, i.e. Ronny, he will have a dance with his wife. But there is also usually a dance for their first born and one of their suitors. In this case, that would mean Rory and his girlfriend, Raven, would dance. Will you be going first or last?"

"We'll go first," you say. "We'll open for father and mother and let them have the big moment before everyone joins in."

"Sounds good to me," father says. "Gives me a moment more to calm my nerves."

"Speaking of nerves," Raven says, moving closer to you. "I know you taught me to waltz before heading out here, but I didn't think we'd do a performance for everyone."

"It'll be fine," you say. "We don't need to do anything too fancy. Maybe an extra twirl or something, but nothing complicated."

"Well, you'll be leading, so I'm going to hold you to that," she says as everyone moves to the edges of the ballroom.

Father talks with Bret while everyone settles into spots and the lights shift to focus more on the dance floor.

"To begin tonight's festivities," Bret says, using more Sound magic. "Young Master Rorek VI and Lady Raven Roth of America will have the first dance."

Everyone applauds, though the suitors are obviously less enthusiastic. You lead Raven to the center as the spotlights follow you.

"What shall we play, Young Master?" the conductor of the band asks you from the corner.

"Perhaps something with a slow start, for us to get warmed up with."

The conductor nods, and he signals for the bad to ready themselves. You and Raven put your hands in the proper places and then you nod to them. The conductor counts them in and...

The Blue Danube is a nice choice. With the introduction, you and Raven only move on the one-two-three between the long horn notes. She smiles and you smile back as you move faster with the accelerating flute. You add little hops between two and three for a one-two-ee-and-a-three rhythm here.

Things slow down again into the recognizeable "da da dada da (la la, la la)" and you take long sweeping motions to follow the horns now, so that you can then step left then back right for the "la la". You cover quite a bit of ground that way. One the crescendo, you pick up a half step of speed, and for the big "da da dada da~, da da DAAA~" you add a twirling lift of Raven. She is of course surprised, but she doesn't miss a beat as the "da da daa~, da daa~, da da, dada da" leads you back into the three-step, accented by a small stamp of the feet.

Everyone applauds while you and Raven laugh as you continue into the light "la la lala la, la la lala la, dada daa~ da, da da daa~ da", with shorter three steps, then broader ones. You even reverse the direction of your rotation for the second time through, which impresses a handful.

Next comes the "du du, du du, du duu~, dudu du, du du, du duu~", which are also longer strides, and then you ring back the little stampering for "du dudu du DUU~ du dududu, du du!" For the next portion, where strings are more apparent, you and Raven add a bit of swaying to the three-step before returning to "du du, du du, du duu~".

"I didn't think I could dance like this," Raven says with a big smile.

"If you think that's something, the next part is a bit more lively, I believe."

The flutes take point, "lu lu, trill~lu lu~", so the two of you step side to side, and you twirl Raven with the trill. You make sure to twirl her alternating directions so that she doesn't get too dizzy. Then things turn into a bit of a trot, with you alternating between being on the outside and then the inside of the circle you're making.

The "BWA, BWA, BWA" bring you to a halt, for you to then sway in box step that you also use to bring you back to center. Then you slowly spiral outward again, and maintain a middle circle with another trot that's a bit slower than before. The next "BWA, BWA BW-BWA" changes things again as you and Raven go full arms length away to then orbit each other while holding right hands. You both glance the suitors, namely Renee, being jealous as you change direction.

You come back together and return to the trotting three-step, and on the last note of "ba, ba, baaa~", you give Raven another lift as you do a quick turn. You also make sure to alternate directions here just so you won't get dizzy. There's a bit more acceleration, then another slow down. The trill returns so more twirling for Raven.

Things slow and shorten so you take small steps which allow you to steady yourselves. You return to long strides and swaying side steps. Another acceleration and crescendo, and then the return of "da da dada da (la la, la la)" allows you to return to the lower paced three-step. You can tell Raven is still catching her breath, but she has a smile. The music speeds up again "da da dada daaa~, da da DAAAAA~" and you let Raven twirl and spin away, but then you quickly glide right up to her to hold hands again for the sudden shift to an even longer "da da dada da..."

"Almost time for the finish," you whisper quickly.

Raven looks curious but then she hears it in the building strings. You two quickly trot in a small circle that spirals inward to be smaller and smaller. You grab her around the waist and she leans back as you spin and spin, then beat for beat with the "La! LA! La laaaaaa~!" you stop, take her hand, and at full arms length, you bow at her while she curtsies at you.

Everyone applauds and some even whistle! Seems you're a hit!

The two of you take more bows and curtsies to the audience, but then Renee storms forward. Her parents, brother and even Roxanne try to stop her but she gets clear of their hands and glares right at Raven.

"Trop c'est trop!" Renee shouts. "Enough iz enough!"

"Renee," you say sternly. "Calm down."

"Non! I will not calm down! I will not accept zis! She iz not worthy of you!"

"Says you!" Raven shouts back.

"I challenge you to a rematch!" Renee shouts over the commotion of the others.

"No!" you say before Raven can speak. "Renee, you are not hijacking my father's birthday with a temper tantrum. You lost to Raven, I love Raven, that's it. There is no way you can change that."

Renee starts tearing up with an angry and sad expression twisting up her lips and crinkling her nose. It's not pretty, but that's just how crying works. She suddenly turns and runs out of the room, and everyone is stunned silent.

You and Raven look at each other, and seem to agree on not knowing what to do. By default, you return to the outer circle, standing with your family while mother and father take your places at the center.

"What should we play, Master Ronald?" the conductor asks.

"Perhaps something with some pep," father says.

The conductor nods, and begins by cuing the drummer.

Your mother and father start with a simple shimmy in the shoulders as the drums beat. They get their feet into it, and when the horns blare in, they start half-turning with little kicks. Father spins mother already with the trumpet's flair. They then accent each following "BWEH!" with one-handed, full-arms-length steps away from each other, turning to face the audience as they make a small circle. It's quite entertaining and the mood is lightened from Renee's outburst.

"Hey! Pachuco!" the band shouts as a lead singer moves forward. "Hey!"

"Summer a '43~!" the singer begins, with the band responding, "Hey!

"The man's gunnin' for me~! (Hey!) Blue and white mean war tonight~...
"(Hey!) They say damn my pride (Hey!)
"And all the other cats livin' down the east side! (Hey!)
"Or maybe just my brim's too wide~..."

As the horns "Bwa! Daa da dada", your father and mother do swing dance staples, such as swinging the woman under between the legs, swinging her back up to wheelbarrow, and then swinging her around to end with him holding her in a hug from behind.

"(Hey!) Ooooh Marieeee~ (Hey!)
"You better grab my jack and zip gun for meee~...!
"(Hey!) 'Cause I'll... face no shame...
"'Cause tonight's the night I die for our name~...! (Hey!)"

The drums and trumpets slow pace and your parents start strutting, your father walking backwards to lead your mother around.

"You should probably talk to my couzin," Rona says as she leans in closely. "That wazn't just zome hizzy fit she threw."

"Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't," you say back.

that was fit of jealousy, one of knowing that she can't have what she wanted. She fully expected to merry Rorek, then had those dreams dashed.

"I will talk to her before we all sit down for dinner," you say. "She'll have time to cool off by then."

"Well, alright zen," Rona says with a slight sigh.

"Well I like to be swingin'!
"Dancin and singing'!
"Just having a good time~!
"Free to do whatever!
"Now more than ever!
"I've got to stick with that gang of mine~!"

Your parents switch from the strutting about to the swing dance moves as the "Bwa! Daa da dada" returns. Father twirls mother around as the saxophone has its solo while band members shout "Hey!" Then things grow soft, and your parents slow down to come in close and shimmy with their hips.

"Bwa! Daa da dada!" returns with force as both parents spin and two-step. Then a sudden stop, "Hey! Pachuco!", and your mother runs into your fathers arms for a quick turn and dip to go with the ending trail off. Everyone applauds, and your parents take a bow. They return to the outer circle, and the music switches to another traditional waltz. You take Raven's hand again and lead her in.

Johann Strauss II's Vienna Blood Waltz is lively from the beginning with the strings. Everyone lightly trots, then the flute cues the ladies to tip-toe. Everyone then stops and then the three-step slowly. You move yourself and Raven closer to the middle of the circle. You spot your sisters each dancing with someone. Rebecca is with Ralph while Roselind is with Randson. You start to frown but Raven gets your attention with a touch of your cheek.

The waltz livens up a moment, but then returns to serene swaying and three-step.

"Are you really going to talk with Renee?" Raven asks.

"I might as well," you say. "I want to make sure she accepts things. We can't have her making another fuss tomorrow morning or something."

"That's true," she sighs. "But in that case, maybe I should go with you? In case she refuses to listen."

"I don't think that'll work," you say. "She might ignore everything I say while she glares at you. Just wait for me by the door."

"Fine..." she sighs deeper. "I love that you're so kind and understanding, but not necessarily when it's for other people."

You chuckle but then snap to attention as the movement changes again. Everyone chooses to sway in a box step, that then speeds up into a partial trot. The flute flairs this time create a lift and kick of the ladies for a half turn. The flairs of trumpets prompt twirling the ladies while they revolve around the gentlemen, and of course alternating in direction.

Another mild section brings the three-step back but in a growing spiral so that the entire circle grows. Then as the music goes back down, the circle recedes. Next comes a partial trotting period, where the call and receive cues ladies first, followed by gentlemen to move over. Then everyone sways in another box step.

The final 30 or so seconds come in and things speed up again. There is more trotting and twirling to match the accelerating strings and fluttering flutes. There's even some carrying and turning, to finish with the stop, step and bow/curtsy. Everyone applauds for each other as well as for the band.

"And with that," Bret says with his Sound Magic. "We conclude the ballroom portion of tonight's festivities. Let us all move to the dining hall for this evening's dinner."

Everyone follows Bret and the Wilmarths out, but Renee has yet to return to the group. You mean to talk with her, but that'd be easier if you knew where she was.

thank you. I'm a master of long stories that seem like they'll never end.

"I'll go find Renee," you say. "Hopefully she hasn't gone too far."

Raven nods and continues on, joining your sisters as they walk with the rest. You turn back and follow where you remember Renee storming off. There's the small hallway that then leads around the back. There is a door that leads otuside to the yard, but there is also a stairway that leads up and around. You doubt she went outside in her dancing shoes, so she must have gone up the stairs.

You walk up the stairs as they curve around the building. You hardly come back here but you know where this leads. The stairs go up a couple stories, to be even with the bedrooms. However, this hallway is all the storage and utility rooms. As you walk the halls, you can hear a sniffling nose. You carefully walk around a corner, and see Renee sitting against a wall, arms wrapped around her large skirt. She's turned away from you, so you take a wide berth so she can see you out the corner of her eye.

"R-Rory!" she says in surprise.

She quickly wipes her eyes, more than likely embarrassed. She also stands up and smooths out her skirt.

"It's dinner time," you say. "I came to get you."

"Mercie," she says.

The two of you turn back and walk down the stairs.

"I..." Renee starts tentatively. "I apologize for my outburst."

"I accept your apology," you say. "I hope that you've accepted my decision--"

"I do not!" Renee says, getting heated again. "I only apologize for lozing my temper. I refuse to let Raven have you."

"But it doesn't matter," you say. "It doesn't matter that you think you deserve to marry me, or that Raven is not worthy of you."

"Dezerve?" Renee says. "I do not accept because I know I love you more!"

"Renee, you do not love me."

"I do! How could I not? How could any woman not love a man as handsome, talented and good as you? And I mean good as in your heart."

"Well that's why Raven loves me," you say. "And you can't say you love me more."

"<But I do!>" she says, slipping into French. "<I have loved you longer than she has! That alone means I love you more.>"

"No it does not," you say. "There is no way to calculate that. And, even if you are genuine. More genuine than you ever let on with that attitude of yours. I'm sorry, but it doesn't matter. Because I do not love you. For all of your spoiled tendencies and general attitude, you are one of my dearest friends. But I love Raven."

Renee looks ready to cry again, but she holds back by taking a deep breath.

"I am holding back, because I do not want to be puffier zen I already must be," she says as she lifts her head high. "I will not accept until ze day you two get married."

"That might be some time from now," you say with a nervous laugh. "It doesn't matter what our families say, I don't want to force Raven to where a wedding ring until she's ready."

Renee is quiet a moment while you reach the bottom of the stairs.

"She iz truly a lucky girl," Renee says.

"She's also very lovely, talented and good," you say.

"Then I zuppose you two were made for each other," Renee says with a sad smile.

The two of you return to the ball room, and you see Raven standing there in the middle.

"Raven, what're you doing here?" you ask in surprise.

"Well, it just felt odd not walking into the dining hall without you," she says as the three of you meet halfway. "Plus, I wanted to make sure this wasn't another Jinx situation."

"Raven, that was different," you say. "That all happened because you were there, too!"

"Jinx?" Renee asks.

"Don't worry about that," Raven says with a dismissive hand wave. "It's never happeniing again."

"Fine," Renee says with a dismissive huff. "I will enter ze dining hall first, so zat you two may make an entrance."

Renee walks away and Raven looks at her with a raised eye-brow.

"It's alright," you say to her. "Renee being back to her haughty self is good. If you think she's hard to handle in a good mood, you don't want to deal with a depressed Renee."

"Okay," Raven shrugs and smirks. "Let's join the others then."

"In a moment," you say. "I want to ask you something first."

"Oh. Okay."

"You know I love you," you start. "And I know you love me."

"Of course," Raven says with a smile.

"And I for one wouldn't mind spending every day with you."

"I feel the same way," Raven says. "But, what're you going to ask me?"

She suddenly has wide eyes but a furrowed brow.

"You are not asking me to marry you," she says.

"But Raven, I'm not expecting us to get married any time soon."

"But you're still expecting us to get married down the line!"

"Well, isn't that the point?" you say. "If we're going to be together for a long, long, long time, why wouldn't we get married?"

"But, it's just too soon to think about!"

"Which is why I'm saying, we can wait. We can wait as long as you want."

Raven looks nervous and timid, but you take her hands in yours.

"However long it takes for you to be ready, I will wait," you say.

Raven looks into your eyes, and because she's an Empath, you know she can feel your honesty, devotion and love.

"Then," Raven says. "When I'm ready to marry you. I'll tell you."

You smile, then bring Raven in for a kiss. She smiles as you two also hug.

You two walk arm in arm back to the dining hall. You'll worry about rings when she one day tells you it's time.

Everyone is in the hall and seated as you two walk in. You help Raven to her seat and then take yours next to her.

"Where did you lot sneak off to?" mother asks in a hushed voice.

"I simply checked on Renee," you reply. "Raven was kind enough to wait for us."

The meal begins with the appetizers, a delicious bowl of seasoned vegetables from carrots to corn to peas. However, as good as the appetizer is with its nice blend of salt and pepper and even some butter, your mind and heart are racing. You know you agreed to put it off for an undefined time, but you and Raven are all but engaged. You're not trying to be an exciteable child about this, but it is exciting to know that you and your perfect woman are set to one day tie the knot.

"You must really like those vegetables," mother says to you.

"Hm?"

"You have a big smile on your face," she points out.

"Oh, uh... Well, yes, these are very good vegetables, but, um..."

"I'll tell you later," you say. "Maybe after dessert."

"All right," she says. "I'll hold you to that."

After the appetizer of vegetables comes the soup, a refreshing chicken noodle soup with some rice mixed in. The third course is poached Salmon with mousseline sauce, the entree is filet mignon. The removes are a nice lamb cutlet with light sauce. The salad is the sixth course, but instead of a salad, it's a macaroni and cheese casserole. It's a nice change of pace, really, as the appetizer was already the vegetable for the night. The seventh course is the main course, and it's a heaping helping of roast pork with butter, sauce, and asparagus as toppings, with a baked potato on the side.

Raven delights in every part of the meal, and you delight in her delight. Of course, the food is obviously good so you enjoy eating it for yourself. The pork is so filling, you want to give up on eating dessert, but then you see it is father's favorite and one of your own, cream filled eclairs. They range in their frostings, from vanilla to chocolate to strawberry, to their fillings, from vanilla to chocolate to jelly to custard.

Everyone is free to have whatever kind they want, and perhaps how many they want, too. Raven carefully picks out an all chocolate one for herself, being sure to come off as ladylike as she does. You decide to go with
