i guess it depends what you mean by greedy, but I don't see how it could not be EA. if you made a spectrum between "values money" and "values creative output" (or "quality of product" or "content") you could argue Apple somewhere in the middle, maybe more to one side or the other, but EA is sitting solidly at the "values money" end of the spectrum. they don't give a rat's ass about content quality. Apple actually wants to innovate and change the world in its own way, etc.

Apple makes their shit in China like everyone else, but charges hundreds of dollars more because their sheep fans will buy it.

They're also the richest company in the history of the Earth, but use every trick in the book such as Inversion and claiming all the sales came from Ireland, to pay a tiny infinitesimal amount of taxes on all that wealth.

They're the most greedy company in existence, no question.

EA probably but that's because EA are always in my face being as I'm into video games. I don't actively follow Apple or mobile devices in general.

It doesn't, really. The person who wanted that is dead. The company as a whole mostly just wants to put out products that the public will flock to, then overcharge for them via manipulative PR or just exploiting people too stupid to know any better.

I think EA is more committed to shitty, manipulative tactics than Apple is, but I mostly think EA only tries to get away with more because it's possible to get away with more on the software side than it is on the hardware side.

Does Apple purposefully slow down their older mobile devices? Or is that a myth?

Arguably, it's more of a technical flaw than a deliberate tactic.

Granted, it's a flaw they have no impetus to fix and which they happily benefit from, but still.

So you don't think a corporation is slowing down their old tech to make people be more inclined to buy the new non-slowed down products?

No, I think a corporation created a product that had inherent technical limitations, and then proceeded to not fix them because the flaw encouraged people to buy more of their product. I don't think they deliberately handicapped the tech to force a planned obsolescence scenario, I think they merely took advantage of a negative and turned it into a positive for themselves (in spite of it still being a negative for users).

(I'm not saying Apple wouldn't deliberately sabotage their product if they needed to in order to make more money, and they thought they could get away with it, but in this case, that's not what they did.)

But do you think that's MORE evil than deliberately ordering developers to design games in ways that explicitly prey upon human addiction psychology to exploit them and encourage them to spend thousands of dollars on non-existent product? Or predatorially acquiring and then eventually destroying multiple successful studios solely to grind out slightly more short-term gain?

I am in no way saying Apple isn't greedy (they absolutely are). But the question is which is worse.

Apple literally releases updates to slow down their older phones. They admitted to it.

Anyone who didn't say Apple is loco. Those phones get marked up by well over 200% And an extra $80 for an additional 16 GB of storage? Get fucking real. iPods and earlier Macs were fantastic because there was nothing else like it, but they've gone off the deep end since iPhone released. Other (better) options exist now.

Apple, easily. EA is a shit company but they aren't designing proprietary technology to play their games.
