They produce stuff in collaboration with artists and promote albums and shit. I think they were the main contribution for getting me into hip-hop music. Especially lesser known underground artists. They have great taste altogether too. Listen to this shit:

I didn't start taking notice until they teamed up with Definitive Jux and made Definitive Swim. That's how I found out about El-P, Aesop Rock and that whole group.
I learned about N*E*R*D through Adult Swim because AS heavily promoted their album "Seeing Sound."
