That time where I got killed by the final RAY on MGS2 Extreme after spending 6 goddamn hours fighting nothing but RAYs or that time when my 3DS's motherboard corrupted and I lost all of my save data.

When I first played Pokemon Yellow, I thought Release meant to take them out of the box.

I released my Bulbasaur. I saved because I had done so much since my last save.

My first semester of Freshman year of college, me and my buddy played through Silent Hill 2 together, passing the controller back and forth between us, and pushed through the game. Neither one of us had played the game before, and it was a ton of fun, we spent multiple nights playing till 4 AM in the morning.

We ended up beating the game just a few days before winter break started and we all went back home for the break, but we were planning on playing through the other story mode, Born From A Wish, after we got back to college.

My friend killed himself over winter break.

I still haven't been able to bring myself to play through the Born From A Wish story.

My family had a dog named Goldie for over a decade before she passed away in early 2013. She was a big part of our family, the best damn dog we could have asked for.

Just a couple months later, Animal Crossing: New Leaf came out on the 3DS. I loved the series, so I bought the game on launch day and immediately started a new town. Who just happened to be the first neighbor I meet in my brand new town? A dog named Goldie. I played long enough to be able to save my game, but then I had to lie down and take a break. After that, I worked hard and turned that town into the best damn town I had ever created in Animal Crossing. It's what Goldie would have wanted.

my most depressing memory isnt that bad its just mostly embarassing

i got super mario rpg legend of the 7 stars when i was in grade 2
i didnt beat it until i was in grade 8.

it was always the same story
i would play the game
id get to the sunken ship
i would then not be able to figure out the password no matter what
i finished all those special rooms with the clues and still couldnt figure it out.

finally one day i finally found the one clue i was missing and the entire thing finally clicked

the r comes before the l.

that was one i finally realized the password was pearls
it was such a relief to finally finish the game

Accidentally deleting my original Animal Crossing town. I can't even really play it anymore since every town feels so crappy in comparison and it just makes me miss my old one.

People not being able to figure out the password is a VERY common thing. It's one of the most prominent examples of massive roadblocks newcomers will almost always reach.

Then people are stupid. That wasn't hard at all. Like, an ounce of common sense gets you through.

And I'm speaking as someone who beat it when I was young. I'm talking 1st grade or maybe even kindergarten.

I don't remember a lot of my childhood, spent most of it doing nothing -but- playing video games. That could be a "sad" story by itself, but whatever happened happened.

I will say, MGS2 was the first game that I remember making me tear up. Emma Emmerich, man - that was a character death.
