Example of a Majora's mask man-baby saying the 3ds version sucked:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=653wuaP0wzs" data-time="

The original bosses were complete garbage, especially the fish and the tiki man.
Dude complains that they made them more interesting.
The controls of the masked link's were complete trash, were overly slippery.
Dude complains they made them more tight.
The save system was dogshit. You basically had to commit to playing the game for hours at a time.
Dude complains that they made it so you could save at any time.

Fucking yikes.

I'm starting to think people only liked Majora's Mask because it sucked.
He literally argues that removing these horrid mechanics makes the game less unique and he only liked the game because it was "unique"

Played Oot and MM for the first time both on 3ds. Oot3D is absolutely fantastic. I didn't finish MM because there's a ton of cryptic or unintuitive moments. First three days is kino though

The Fierce Deity anywhere glitch is much easier in the 3DS version so for me its the superior game

But it's also way glitchier. If you open a door on the 3ds version, it hard crashes the game. N64 let you do more with FD link even though it's harder to execute

some of the doors crash the game on n64 as well

also you never had to commit to playing the game for hours at a time, n64 had owl statue saves that would reload you at the same place you saved at without resetting the timer / your progress

I liked both games and I played both on the n64 as a kid, but people have to realize how terrible some of the game design and mechanics were in Majora's Mask to someone who didn't grow up with the game and didn't have the guide book like everyone did back then.

The 3DS fixed a lot of this and still the game is full of cryptic nonsense.

I think people who love Majora's Mask love the game because either they grew up with it, or they appreciate the "uniqueness", or they value "dark" themes, and let the themes of the game carry everything else in their mind, and that's fine.

But to say the 3DS ruined the game because the boss fights were no longer mindless?
And because the game didn't force you play hours on end or just leave your n64 on?

People would literally leave their n64 on back in the day because they didn't want to lose their progress.

I remember when I was replaying the wii version my game actually crashed at the end of the stone temple and I lost hours of game time because the game refused to let me save without losing everything.

Maybe they should have let it be an option to turn off saving for these people, but they could... I don't know, just not save?

How does it affect them knowing that other players can finally save the game when they want? lmao

yeah, that's the other thing. he can just not play it. The original Majora's Mask is playable on plenty of other consoles.

If he wants to "hack away" at the bosses or not be able to save, he can play the original.

But I doubt players who are just playing for the first time or don't have this mega attachment to the original would prefer all the quality of life changes

Two examples off the top of my head

To get the dying zora out of the water you have to put yourself in very specific placement behind him such that you can get the prompt to push him that is completely unique to that situation. For the most part the game shows you that your options are very limited in the water and on top of that getting the prompt to come up is janky so I wasted a ton of time there.

Then when getting into the pirate hideout you have to control just right to break that stupid wood barrier, ugh. I tried other things because the first time I did it simply nothing happened.

don't you just.... swim into it?

there's a few things I'd consider kinda cryptic but they're mostly sidequest stuff

It was only a quick save though. So if you suffered from a freeze/crash or other issue all your work until the last time you used the song of time was gone.

that's true, and the GC rerelease did have a few crashing issues which is always bad in a game but is particularly annoying here. It's not like you need to leave your console on overnight or anything though unless you just failed to comprehend the options the game gives you for saving

I will happily call MM a pile of ass for a multitude of reasons, but this isn't an actual issue with the game. You could always do a memo save that you could pick up from later. If someone was leaving their system on it was because they didn't want to take 5 minutes to walk Link to an Owl Statue.

Yes. Still doesnt negate the fact that the save system increases the risk of losing major progress on accident or through game/system error.

The lighting is way too bright and ruins the atmosphere in some areas, especially the final boss.

Also, the text speed and placement is really fucked up. I have a webm on my pc that shows it if I remember later, but it ruins the mood of the scenes sometimes because of how fast it goes (and sometimes the camera doesn't keep up) and how the devs cut out certain lines. It's kinda hard to explain >_>
