than again people seem to only think economically depressed rural areas of the South that are comically right wing are the only "true" representative examples of the South allowed, and of course the region's culture hasn't evolved at all post civil rights era.

Florida definitely is the South both geographically and culturally.

From strictly a cultural standpoint however I would say we're less southern than places like Georgia and Alabama

I think it's just an acknowledgment of the ways in which south Florida in particular is wildly different from the more stereotypical south; it's populated by old northerners and Caribbean immigrants.

Florida is so bad that the South doesn't want nothing to do with them.

to be fair megapolises tend to be way different culturally relative to the rest of it's state, be it NYC, Chicago, Atlanta, etc, they tend to have more left leaning pockets , have much higher recent immigrant populations, and trend towards more transient populations from the region/migrants from other subsections of the country.

Hmmm, I mean its politics aren't the same as other southern states so I get that claim. I dunno that I care what you want to call it, though

I definitely have, but people are weird about their regionalism. When I lived in D.C., I met a lot of people (from the Upper South, like Virginia and North Carolina) who didn't consider me a southerner even though I'm from Arkansas.

lol this made me laugh because a lot of folk from the Lower South consider VA and NC to be Southern lite, go figure.

I think a big part of it is that when most of the rest of the nation thinks of the Florida they think of the super-touristy parts like Orlando (which from a tourist perspective is mostly just theme parks), Miami, or the tropical resort areas. Those areas definitely aren't culturally "southern", as most people think of them. Also Florida's huge population of transplants dulls out any sort of accent and dilutes a lot of the culture from the native Floridians.

Even central Florida is pretty south. When I lived there I saw a lot of confederate flags and casual racism

The panhandle might as well be south Alabama. When you cross the state border there is no difference. Even in the southern part there are rednecks and/or typical southen culture. I never got why people say that.
