I wanted to continue the original DS games, but since I lost them, the 3DS trilogy will have to do. I'm starting with the first, and I've completely forgotten how the cases went too. On one hand, I'm disappointed I forgot, but on the other hand, it helps make it feel kind of like a fresh playthrough again. ^^

I know that the fifth game is on 3DS, but I'm not sure about the fourth...

I see, the originals were really good and I don't think I have a way of playing them legally either. If I recall correctly, the fourth one (Apollo Justice) is available on 3DS albeit only digitally in the U.S. and Europe, Japan got a physical version though.

I kinda want to play them in Japanese to see if I can spot on some important differences between the original and the localizations but my Japanese is still nowhere near good enough, I think. Someday I'll do it for sure :P

There are some games I wish I could choose to forget about their plot entirely just to experience them again, lol.

To your initial post, TC, most organized crime would like to avoid problems with the police if at all possible.

It's one thing to make a privately-practicing lawyer disappear. It's entirely another to kill a cop.

Also if we're talking about Case 1-3, I'm pretty sure those yakuza guys were just cardboard cutouts anyway.

Vasquez never wanted to kill some cop, at most she wanted to silence Phoenix or scare him into dropping the case. Remember that the original murder in the case was not even intentional in the first place.

These are very good points. Also, I'm pretty sure the Yakuza guys in 1-3 weren't cardboard cutouts. Maya probably wouldn't be talking about being so scared if that was the case, and Vasquez probably wouldn't be talking about killing off Wright.

I wish I could do that. ;_; I'll never know enough Japanese to do that. Let me know what you find, especially the names. ^^
I will, so far I'm already aware there are various name changes and food references thanks to the "Eat your Hamburgers, Apollo" meme. I know Phoenix Wright original name is (Naruhod Ryichi) and the pun on the word (naruhodo) is obvious but I wasn't aware until now that the name Ryichi was given to him because of Sakamoto Ryuichi (a Japanese composer). Ironically, I listen to Sakamoto's work quite often and this didn't even occur to me.

Considering that I guess there must be tons of references I have yet to see so it'll be fun when I get around playing the games in Japanese.

Not on Steam. ;_;
I glanced and thought they were on Steam but it's just the anime adaptation, reading a bit on the wiki it seems the original trilogy was indeed released physically on Windows back in 2005 and 2006 but only in Japanese.

The stuff about the names and food was kind of a given. But I have no idea what pun there is with the name "" though...

And it never occurred to me there might be lots of references to Japanese stuff. I don't recall the localization being too heavy on references to western media.

Let's not forget Edgeworth actually helping out Phoenix and questioning his own witness. Even if a prosecutor knows their client is guilty, legally you're not allowed to do what he did.

means something along the lines of [I see / I get it / now I understand] which is funny considering that he investigates and gathers information to solve cases. Pronunciation-wise, the only difference between his original surname (Naruhod) and the word (naruhodo) is the elongated "o" vowel at the end.

I wonder if he ends up saying that a lot, or something... This just makes me even more curious as to the Japanese names, now. Also strange that the localization didn't do something similar for Phoenix Wright's name, but I'm guessing they went with "Phoenix" to go along with the whole "turnabout" thing, where you're about to lose, but then turn the trial around. Like a "revival" sort of thing. And "Wright" is an obvious one... _

Did you start your playthrough?

I hadn't even thought about that, but yeah the phoenix thing sounds about right. It'll be fun to try and look for a particular deep meaning / reference in the other characters' names. I haven't started yet, but I most likely will sometime this week. I hope you're having fun with yours though :)

The Orca is kind of the in the same tier as the parrot. I don't think there have been instances of allowing people to testify without showing their face from who knows where using inanimate objects and weapons (and the robot isn't even controlled by anyone) irl though.
