i loved the show but thought that was the weirdest arc. i enjoyed it but was probably my least favorite

The big things about the arc like Pitou or Meruem only have significance due to every episode building them up to be a complex and incredible threat

It was so built up for me that so far it has been really good, but it doesn't reach the levels of something like FMA Brotherhood in terms of Shonen Battle Anime.

Plus, Greed Island sucked, and moving focus away from the Spiders really kinda took the wind out of the sails of the series IMO.

The rules don't make any sense, the laws of the game make no sense, and we go from Nen being something that can make people super powerful into creating cards that literally break all reality and laws of physics.

The villains were awful, the story makes no sense, and it moves away from The Spiders.

The art is so bad, it felt like this is when they straight up quit putting any effort into HxH. Some of the Chimera Ant chapters are literally just doodles. And people actually pay to read that shit? Ha!

And what was with the King and his servants having a gay orgy. Shit was just weird.

The arc would be a lot more fun if it didn't have constant cut aways to other things while the narrator explains every nano-second over a period of 10 minutes.

Maybe my fave arc in anime along with Namek Arc in DBZ and Kyoto Arc in Rurouni Kenshin and Battle Tendency in JoJo.

People that complain about the narrator just didn't get it tbh. He was definitely necessary because of how fast things were happening and how understated they would've been had it not been for his narration. Togashi is a genius of a writer tbh.

Problem is there's so much filler narration about extremely minor things, like how Knuckle can't hold his tears or how Pitoe is releasing his en to detect an enemy. We have eyes, we don't need a narrator breaking up the flow of the story to explain every little tiny detail.

Rule number 1 in film is to show, not tell. The narrator is nescessary in the manga due to the limited ability to show. But it was a hinderance in the anime that degraded the experience.
