Bio1590 08/28/18 1:29:55 AM #1:	https://ustr.gov/about-us/policy-offices/press-office/press-releases/2018/august/modernizing-nafta-be-21st-century# https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/nafta-us-mexico-progress-monday-1.4800182 It also includes new measures on digital trade, financial services and intellectual property all improvements the U.S. had sought in the Trans-Pacific Partnership and officials suggested the new provisions exceed those the U.S. negotiated in the TPP, to which both Canada and Mexico were signatories. Mexico has also agreed to increase intellectual property protection for biologics drugs. The TPP would have offered eight years of protection, but this deal offers up to 10 years. I honestly hope Canada just walks away from this like they did during the original NAFTA negotiations. At that point this wouldn't go through as the White House has to have a trilateral deal because they haven't officially notified Congress of any bilateral deal. In summary, the Trump administration is trying to squeeze Canada by saying "the train is leaving the station with Mexico, get on board or don't" - even though it's not clear Mexico has agreed to have the train leave the station without Canada. Good things on labour rights including labour protections on immigrants. Good things on environment. Probably not what we think of eg climate change--but resource regulation. These. are my quick impressions, I may be wrong. There seem to be onerous negatives here. I'd walk. This is a BS deal. And the way that it was "negotiated" is simply putting a gun to our head. The US is run by oligarchs. They'll scream bloody murder if they can't do business with us. I'm sure the US can't force North American sourced steel due to WTO rules too. The One Belt One Road initiative is calling. They often claim how their agreements are full of mutual respect. If we sent an envoy the Yanks would get the message. How much are those S400s? This could be fun. The US Senate might ban us from buying that crap F35 if we get a s400 system, like they did with Turkey.
