Like the prequel trilogy for example. Some gooooooood memes have come out of that. Are the movies innately memeable, or can anything be memed into hilarious absurdity?

Theoretically, yes, but in practice no, not anything can be memed. Memes usually happen when one thing can be appropriated to express another thing outside its original context. Either what's being expressed has to be readily apparent, or the reference to the original context does. Pepe the Frog is a great example of the former: once appropriated from its original context, his facial expression and line, "feels good, man" became usable in almost any situation. This split off into Angry Pepe and Sad Pepe memes: a meme spawning memes. The comic Pepe came from was fairly obscure but that didn't matter.

In the latter case, posting an image of Walter from The Big Lebowski, or Chris Hansen is immediately recognizable as derision of anyone sexualizing people under the age of consent. This requires some understanding of its original context, but with that understanding in place this image can be appropriated to express a point of view on the subject.

Animated sitcoms are exceptionally well-suited for memes. Of course, in the Simpsons case, it's got around 30 years of content to draw from. It's also weird to the extent that *old* content can suddenly become a big thing, like the Steamed Hams remixes.

And pretty much anything with a comical overreaction works well (because the internet is all about overreactions), which is why that motorcycle show had its meme going for a while.
