In Skyrim I didn't like that you could only get some shouts if you joined a faction. What if you don't want to be a mage all in a play through. If they have something like shouts, there should be more than one way to get them.

Bring back the Oblivion/Morrowind advancement system. Get rid of the stamina/health/magic system. You can keep the idea the perk trees, that was a OK idea.

Check the mods and see what is popular try to incorporate some of those ideas.

More respect/fear for your high ranking multiple faction leader character. Be able to tell NPC's like Malven (spelling?), Maul & his brother Dirge(?) to kiss your butt & be able to back it up.

As a Morrowind fanboy, I'd like:

- Michael Kirkbride to return to write the story, dialogue, quests, etc.;
- A more exotic, alien setting (like the Summerset Isles);
- Factions that require serious effort when rising through the ranks;
- Open-ended quests that let you figure things out yourself;
- Minimal levelling of enemies and loot;
- A hand-drawn map (preferably physical, but digital would do);
- Towns and cities with no transitions (and the ability to Levitate over them!);
- Extensive magic creation and enchantment systems;
- A smaller, but denser and more detailed, world (or a large one if they can deliver both);
- A barter system (so you can buy and sell multiple items in the one transaction, potentially without even using any gold);
- A user interface on PC that takes advantage of the mouse and keyboard.

Aside from that, the combat could always be improved of course, i.e. made more visceral (where enemies don't feel like punching bags), rewarding, challenging, etc.

A more interactive world would be great. Maybe add some Zelda-style abilities to help getting around and a more extensive physics-based simulation that can be exploited in gameplay.

The AI will be an obvious area to improve as well. Add more actions that NPCs can perform in their schedules and more ways for the player to interact with them.

And uh... keep squishing those bugs!

The return of actual quests. I want a game like ESO where you can make decisions and it actually does something in the game (even if some of those decisions are scripted, you still see towns and graveyards change as a result of your actions).

I want guild stories that last more than a couple of hours.

I want fewer generic ass quests that you've already played a thousand times in other games. At least, I want fewer quests the way that Bethesda does it.

I want roleplaying to matter. If I'm a master thief, the only people who should know about it are the people in the thieves guild, not every Tom, Sally and Watch Captain that I walk across.

I want nudity to make better wax museums with.

I want more weapons.
I want to make spells again.

I don't want every guild story to end with "and you were the chosen one the end". I want to bust my ass for 20 hours for the Mages just so they can appoint me lead flower bearer at the ArchMage's wedding ceremony and that's the end of the storyline. And I want to put in 50 hours for the Fighter's Guild and maybe become some platoon leader in some backwaters area but I have a platoon and I can go around the countryside and kill goblins with them. Or let them go on liberty and get drunk.

And I want things to change and grow and evolve.

PS: Oh and I am sick of fighting the same stupid enemies, I am so tired of the zombies from Skyrim and Fallout 4, I'm so tired of the bandits from Skyrim and Fallout 4, and I'm tired of . Well that was it, those were basically the enemies. I don't want dragons. Or if there are dragons they have to be scary and not killable by an old lady with a dagger.

I would like Valenwood to be the setting and for the main quest to involve bringing about the Wild Hunt.

But ultimately I want a game with more substance than Skyrim. I'm fine with the game world being a bit smaller if it means more depth. Though bigger is always going to be the trend for open world games.
