"The lady doth protest too much" is a great phrase and metaphor. Pretty much anybody who denies an accusation (or champions a cause) too loudly and aggressively is usually trying to hide something.

In the case of fringies like SJWs or Nazis, they tend to just be woefully unhappy with themselves. Feeling loved and secure would probably make them drop their idiotic beliefs.
