Its plot is also poorly handled. Tidus is awful. Yuna is cardboard. Lulu is boring. Wakka is racist but at least he has something going on. Rikku is great...til X-2. Basically this, but I have some other stuff to say. I still like FFX, but I don't like the whole "fish out of water", "hey what's that? please tell me backstory" sort of thing. The game has its moments and I like the music, but it's a product of its time and I'd argue that storywise, it's a bit of a shambles. I much prefer Symphonia's earnestly tropey story, characters who have lived in the world but who still have cultural differences and who see and learn new things, and I think the voice-acting is a lot better too. The last point is most likely a factor due to age - FFX was ambitious for the time, being the first fully voiced mainline Final Fantasy game, but the polish that comes with Symphonia's release 2 - 3 years later makes all the difference in the world. --- I will walk down to the end with you, if you will walk all the way down with me.
