Really popular stuff like Star Wars and whatnot

Do you think anything like that will still have a following or will our stuff be obscure and only enjoyed by future hipsters?

I think some of the music will be relevant. Only soundtrack stuff, though. I think most pop music will be COMPLETELY forgotten. Especially stuff from the last 20 years or so.

100 years from now, a lot of stuff (should/will) be public domain from copyright. I'm guessing some of it would be known because it will be re-imagined.

Well in about 11 years Mickey Mouse will be 100 years old, and honestly unless something really terrible happens or really amazing that boots them out of the market there's nothing going to topple Disney in the foreseeable future. That pretty much covers Star Wars and Marvel for another good half century or so.

You mean how old music and religion are still relevant today?
Shakespear?
Mark Twain?
Jules Verne?

I doubt people will be teaching Star Wars to school children.

Disney will still own the IP in 100 years, so they will make sure to remember us.

Disney isnt invincible. They were doing pretty bad like 15 years ago. And in the 70s/80s.

I'd think that any billion-dollar industry, and anything's that's thus far been relevant for the last 75 years, will still be relevant in 100 years.

Let's say that Disney decides to kill Star Wars tomorrow.
No more official Star Wars anything at all.
People growing up with Star Wars will still continue to do homages to it and the fans will keep it alive, so yes, I think that we will have Star Wars references in 100 years even if some don't know where it originated from.

Some rare stuff, maybe. But the pop culture of "today" that gets remembered is probably going to be older stuff that's already been around for decades. I've mentioned multiple times in the past that I believe the modern media environment has made it harder and harder for anything to become lasting pop culture that is applicable to larger social groups.

The future is personal nostalgia and endless memes that you forget 20 minutes after they happen.

On the flip side, I wonder how many real life events of today will be thought of as fiction in 100 years.

For example, there are a lot of people that aren't aware that the Titanic was a real ship and that it really did hit an iceberg and sank. A lot of people just think it was a movie starring Leonardo Dicaprio.

Back a few years ago on the 100th anniversary of the Titantic's sinking, it made national news, and people on social media where all like, "You mean the Titanic was real?!"
